I bought this phone from overseas and it works good on the XT network. 2 MAJOR problems though - firstly there seems to be no way to use emoticons in text messages. I have trolled the net on this subject and the emoticons are on the phone(hidden!!!) but there seems to be no way of accessing them, really bizarre. Now the second problem is weird too - the headset only seems to work in mono. I bought a stereo adaptor off Trade Me to use my own earphones but same problem, it only plays in mono. I can't find any setting that would change this, is it a design fault maybe? Very frustrating because I like the phone but because of these 2 quirks I will sell it if I can't find a way to fix it. Help!!!
The emoticons are a pointless feature IMO. As they very rarely workwith other brands/models of phone. Ie sending a text to a Nokia with an emoticon from a Motorola, will just insert a random symbol. Just use the traditional :) ;) ;( etc etc.
I am not sure about the stereo / mono problem. But if you bought a 4pin headset adapter, rather than a three pin headphone adapter, that could cause you do only hear sound out of one ear piece.
Well every phone I've ever used, and I've had a few!!, have had emoticons, it's a basic feature and it's fun, which I thought mobile phones were supposed to be as well as functional. As far as the earphone - you can hear out of both left and right sides no problem but it's in mono, i.e. the same sound out of both sides which seems weird on a music phone like the V9. I am wondering if it's actually a fake, I wouldn't want to assume anything nefarious but you never know these days!! Cheers :)
