If you are an avid facebook user and love taking photos on your phone then go for windows phone 7. Unlike the iphone, the UI is user centric rather than app centric.

Do whatever you want to do man.

If you wish to purchase the phone from NZ then only option is the LG Optimus 7Q which Gen-I (business branch of telecom) will release for corporate customers on 24th nov most prob. Telecom retail will most likely sell the same model too. Personally, I don't like the hardware design that much.

I have pre-ordered the Samsung focus from expansys.co.nz. All up incl import GST should be $950max. Brilliant hardware specs and very very light. The below phone is perfect for XT. Expansys will be a parallel import but you will recieve full 12months warranty.

Avoid the flipout. If you're getting an android phone, make sure it's running android 2.1 or 2.2. I have a HTC Desire Z (after having use a Desire) and it's brilliant.
Smartphones do tend to be pricey though, whats your budget?

"Stolen iPod"?... If it wasn't yours to begin with the apps won't be able to be sync'd to your account i don't think. Might be a bit tricky to get that all sorted out nicely so is a bit of a moot point.

If you're remotely tech savvy and enjoy being able to see what's going on then Android is the way to go, if you don't care about anything but facebook and twitter, then get an iPhone or W7 phone.

I'd say WP7 if you're feeling adventurous, Android if you hate fences and iphone if you don't mind limitations in exchange for convenience
