I couldn't find this posted anywhere so hopefully I'm not double posting...

I saw this over at gsmarena.com

Qualcomm talks new dual-core Snapdragon with 5x performance
-----------------------------
Qualcomm, the company behind Snapdragon, teased its successor - the MSM8960 has two cores, five times the performance, better graphics and a multi-mode 3G and 4G modem. They also have a couple of other dual-core systems using the current Snapdragon core but at higher frequency.

-----------------------------

The article has some nice images of Chipset vs Game Device performance.

Interesting times ...

Sole reason i didnt go with the HTC Desire HD. With this tech just around the corner its too much of a tech leap to buy current products.

I know you can wait for ever, but the step from single to dual core is a major change and worth the wait.

you won't see this tech for good couple of years. even with 1.2gHz processors coming, it's not going to make a difference as the main component is the OS. the OS's available right now still cannot harness the full power of existing CPU's.

Do whatever you want to do man.

But we all know that the difference between dual core and quad core is not the same as the leap from single single to dual.

Plus quad core on a phone is silly at the moment but the benefits in multitasking offered by dual cores is decent.

As a follow-up ...

Qualcomm ships first dual-core Snapdragon chipsets clocking 1.2GHz (as of Jun 1st 2010)

- they support all 3G modes too

So the dual-core 1.2GHz chipsets are already with manufacturers.

Additionally ...

"these new chips have two application cores and a single modem core, whereas existing chips have a single application core alongside a single modem core. We were also told in no uncertain terms that an even quicker version of the Snapdragon would be launched before the year's end, and as you'd likely surmise, it'll be aimed at "larger screen" devices -- you know, like slates and tablet PCs."

Probably the QSD8672, which has its CPUs clocked at 1.5GHz
