FOCUS0:

Looks like the issue has been resolved for now

All my TiVo's have updated their programs

If and when they shut down the service .. what options do we have ?

Buy another brand of DVR I guess as the TiVo will just be like and old VCR..

Mine is all good now too. Wonder why it failed again so soon after they "fixed it the first time...

I guess the good news is it was fixed faster than last time.

I'm dreading the day the American's (who evidentially host and maintain the EPG/updates) decide it's not worth their while maintaining the AU/NZ system.  They're not getting any ongoing revenue from this end of the world after all given the service is paid for in the US as a monthly subscription service.  The alternative PVRs available here are by in large underpowered and gutless.

I think that TiVo should look at reinvesting in this region.  Even on a monthly revenue stream people I think would take it up..

Couldn't agree more!  It would be the hub of all home entertainment as current models have everything.  They're kitted out with apps for pretty much all VoD services, 4K, terrestrial/satellite/cable inputs (including slots for presumably Sky card equivalents so could with some software tweaking become a MySky box assuming Sky allow it) - oh, and SIX TUNERS!!

The bit of interest to me is a very small palm sized set top box which you can attach to another TV in the house and stream anything from the main TiVo unit via your LAN/WiFi.  No need for the Home Network Package or whatever it was called to copy recordings to other TiVo's, you stream direct from what is effectively your local TiVo server.

They also have a Genie service that works and think I've read you can actually log into your MyTiVo account, set/modify your Season Passes in the cloud and even stream your recordings remotely.

Looks like it's happening again.  Just tried to update the EPG  and get to the Connecting screen and get "Failed while Configuring"

Did a restart and still the same..

Keep waiting for this to fail and not be supported anymore.

I'm hoping that doesn't happen, or someone else ports the content out.

Aspects of TIVO were way ahead of it's time, especially around the UI.  It's a shame the delivery was botched here in NZ, as we may have received newer models if it had been a success.

HOw come people are doing manual updates? It will just update automatically, and the current EPG was 14 days in advance (or maybe they have reduced that)

Manual updates allow you to see if the problem has been fixed.  Could do a network status check but if you're doing that you might as well run the updater.

The EPG timeframe depends on the broadcaster.  TVNZ channels are usually pushed out to around 14 days but Mediaworks and the smaller channels are only a week give or take.

My point was more that unless you do manual checks, many people wouldn't notice the problem, as long as it is fixed before the EPG runs out. But good to know there are people checking the EPG server is up each day.

I submitted a ticket to TiVo support yesterday morning re failing updates.  I've just got the following back.  Hopefully it doesn't come to running out of EPG data but kudos for providing the instructions.

===

Thank you for contacting TiVo Support.

We have been made aware of this reoccurrence and are working to identify the cause of the problem. In the interim, if your TiVo does happen to run out of EPG data you can setup manual recordings so you do not miss your favourite programs. To set up a manual recording, perform the following steps:

1. Go to TiVo Central by pressing the TiVo button on the remote control. Select Find Programs, then Record by Time or Channel, then Set Up Manual Recording.

2.  Choose How Often by using the UP and DOWN arrows to highlight "Once" or "Repeat".. Then press the RIGHT arrow.

3. Choose the day(s) for the recording, using the UP and DOWN arrows to change the current selection. If you chose Repeating, you can choose to repeat the recording on a specified day of the week or several times a week. Then press the RIGHT arrow.

4.  Choose a channel using the UP and DOWN arrows or by entering a number with the remote. Then press the RIGHT arrow.

5. Set the hour, minute, and AM/PM for the start and stop time, using the UP and DOWN arrows to change the current selection. Press the RIGHT arrow to move to the next step, or LEFT arrow to move back.

6.  Schedule the recording by pressing SELECT. A confirmation screen appears:

• If you want to schedule a single recording, highlight Record this showing and press SELECT.

• If you want to schedule a repeating recording, highlight Create repeating recording and press SELECT.

For any future enquiries related to this issue please reply to this message leaving the reference number in the subject.

Regards,

TiVo Support

We have four TiVo units and the wife sometimes has all recording at least one load of r.. I mean TV programs, if not both tuners recording at once. I REALLY hope it doesn't come down to manual settings!

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

The TiVo support answer sounds like a buttering up for the day that the EPG stops..
