I love TIVO, but it does have minor quibbles.

The 1080i image when compared to other devices PS3, Vantage and Draco Freeview is soft (slightly).

The main menu is SD. Channel change is sluggish. It won't play WAV files over the network and other quibbles that make it just shy of perfect.

The reduced component resolution was a real pain - so in the end I bought a Slingbox 500 which accepted HDMI and worked perfectly.

I thought you can lock the resolution to 1080p with the button on the front panel.

For those on Vodafone Cable/FibreX the vodafone TV box provides some of the capability of tivo. Ability to record 2 channels while watching a third. A full EPG and a mobile app to schedule recordings while away from home. T box is free if on unlimited plans otherwise $15 per month IIRC.

Just a thought. It's simple and it works but I know this is not available to everyone though.

How about telling the truth? Rather then send the poster to the page that tells you there are no options, and here is what is being turned off, and we recommend to stop using it

I had a shot at contacting the USA Executive Team - asking for contact information for the person in charge of international operations or similar. That was a week ago - no response.

Has anyone contacted the retailers in NZ?. From what I gather the manufacturer appears to have been Hybrid Australia, and these are the same boxes that they were selling in Oz. However once Hybrid licenses ends, who is then considered to be the manufacturer, is it TiVo US, or is it still Hybrid, even if the license has ended?

TIVO (USA) is the manufacturer.

Hybrid were the agents with the licence to sell, service and appoint agents for the TIVO product in NZ/Oz.

Note the information confirming the close down was not from Hybrid - but from TIVO.

No mention of Hybrid was contained in the e-mail or the banner that came with it.

This is a TIVO issue, NOT a Hybrid issue.

That is interesting, because they then be engaging with NZers who contact them, if they are considered to be the manufacturer. Although the law around this does seem to be a little bit grey according to https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/for-business/complying-with-consumer-laws/industry-guidelines/manufacturers-importers-and-distributors/ . Does anyone know who the importer was for these into NZ? Was it Telecom?

nz tivo won't do 1080p, 1080i is the max. resolution.

For what it is worth, here is what happened in England:

United Kingdom[edit]

The TiVo service was launched in the United Kingdom in the autumn of 2000. It sold only 35,000 units over the next 18 months. Thomson, makers of the only UK TiVo box, abandoned it in early 2002 after BSkyB launched its Sky+ integrated "set-top" decoder and DVR which dominated the market for DVRs in homes subscribing to BSkyB's paid-for satellite television service. Many manufacturers, including Thomson[13][14]have launched integrated decoder boxes/DVRs in the UK for other digital platforms, including free satellite, terrestrial, cable and IPTV.

A technical issue caused TiVo Suggestions to stop recording for S1 UK TiVo customers in late September 2008, but this was fixed in late January 2009.[15]

Since December 2010, UK TiVo units that were not already on an active monthly subscription or lifetime subscription could no longer be re-activated. BSkyB who were operating the support for TiVo no longer had full access to the TiVo systems to activate accounts.

The TiVo S1 subscription service was maintained for both lifetime and monthly subscriptions until 1 June 2011.[16] A community project known as AltEPG was established in March 2011 with the aim of providing a replacement for the discontinued subscription service. This project now provides programme guide data and software upgrades for S1 TiVos.[17]

On 24 November 2009, cable television provider Virgin Media entered into a strategic partnership with TiVo.[3] Under the mutually exclusive agreement, TiVo developed a converged television and broadband interactive interface to power Virgin Media's next generation, high definition set top boxes. TiVo will become the exclusive provider of middleware and user interface software for Virgin Media's next generation set top boxes. Virgin Media will be the exclusive distributor of TiVo services and technology in the United Kingdom. Virgin Media released its first TiVo co-branded product in December 2010.[18] On 17 March 2011, Virgin Media enabled access to a third tuner.[19]

As of 12 February 2015, Virgin Media has two million TiVo customers, 50% of their television customers.[20]

It IS a Hybrid issue... the licence lets them use the TiVo name.

Until October.

And since the licence was arranged, TiVo has been bought out by Rovi, who really don't care.

Look at the very bottom where it says (c) Hybrid Television Services (ANZ) Pty. Ltd.

Last man standing rule applies and Hybrid isn't standing.

It is a TIVO issue. It is their brand, their licence to reissue, their product and their name on all the communications.

Hybrid is dead and have no further role to play in the saga.

Last man standing is TIVO.

Sadly you are right that they don't care. But I am going to continue to write on the issue.
