yeah, i miss my tivo already.. very strange pause ion this thing.

I have to push rewind live tv first then it will pause

if i change a channel, i have to push stop.

change channel and if i want to use pause on the new channel have to push live tv again. very weird ??

it doesnt seem to start recording for the pause until you push the live tv button everytime you change a channel..

Also how do i turn off freeview plus, anoyying that is ...

******* UPDATE to this post, apparently you have to wait up to 5 secs before the pause will start after pushing pause.

When you are recording a channel pause wont work on any channels even the one you are recording on..

Ive got it recording 2 channels at once right now and I can only watch one of those 2 channels, not any other channels, and no pause on either.

tivo used to record 2 and watch another i think and pause while recording..

with tivo you could pause,record do everything all at once.

I must be doing something wrong, surely its not like this, if it is its only good for recording in the background while you are watching the real tv set..

I'll call support tomorrow to make sure its not me doing something wrong..

one good thing i can watch netflix while recording 2 channels.

Ok, I think I have it out now.

If you are a channel flicker and want to pause/rewind this would drive you crazy.

Lucky I normally stay on one channel for a while.

It takes discipline if you want to pause TV.

Sequence I have to do to get pause going:

Change channel,

Push rewind live tv button.Screen blanks and starts the buffer (it wont pause until u do this).

Then can pause the channel go back etc.

To change channel push stop.

Click on yes to Return to live TV.

Then all functions are back and you lose the buffer.

Change channel.

Push rewind live TV button again.

While you are in this function nothing else works, no guide no set recording up etc, you have to stop live TV to get all functions back.

This is really weird, I dont know why they didn't make it do all that automatically when you change channel.

Did the earlier ones do this as well ??

Ugh. If you aren't changing channels, can you pause Live TV by just pressing pause?

That didnt work here last night, but two channels were recording.

Nope, pushing pause does nothing until you first push the rewind live tv button. really weird. Does yours do the same ?

As a test i stopped it all and started recording another channel, then started the pause function again and it works while recording another channel so at least all the series links should work, I'll try that later on.

OK, I just talked to panasonic support and he told me all freeview recorders are like that ???

Then he tried to tell me that Tivos got all the broadcast stream via the internet and not from the Tuners and said it was impossible to do it any other way.

I dont think thats right, Tivos only got the movies from those movie programs like quickflix and caspa you paid for via the internet all the rest was over the air by the tuners..

He said it would never change as thats how its done on all PVR's ??

But I am very sure that the Tivo EPG was via the internet. I recall comments from Telecom that it uses very little in regard to the days when Broadband usage was not, or not typically unlimited

It does not sound like the panasonics are a very good replacement at all. I guess they are probably the best off the shelf alternative to Tivo, such a pity that Tivo will no longer work.

Good luck, I have not splashed out yet on a Panasonic as I am hoping something better hits the market soon. But now after reading you comments I am unsure I really want to. I would have returned the product by now.

Yes thats right, the EPG and updates came via the Internet, everything else came from the Tuners. I can remember that they said to be careful if you used caspa and you were o a connection outside of them as it would use the internet for caspa which is why telecom made it free data for the tivo if you got it from them..

I guess I could probably live with it. But it really need to be Wife friendly, which was one of the great benefits of Tivo and Sky.

Its not faulty so you cannot return it

The Tivo was a device with a higher level of functionality than standard Freeview. Its gone. You can read the other thread where some are exploring third party changes to a Tivo, or other solutions to gain Tivo functionality

Well, you could perhaps try and argue the 'not fit for purpose' thing. Is pausing live TV a primary advertised feature of the Panasonic? If not, then it would be an uphill battle.

Yes you are right, Ill just have to live with it now I have it, Its suprising how much you miss those easy functions of TIVO when you dont have them,

Pause used to get used all the time here by everyone...

All the other functions seem to work ok - recording, series link etc..

Pause does work but it works different to just pressing pause. I saw a link (2009 so didn't copy it) that said that Live TV pause uses the TV tuner somehow, hence the silly way it works. It also mentioned Chase TV button, is that on OP's remote or settings? (US article I assume)
