Ah, thought tivo did it like my other Satellite UltraPlus.

But then why do some channels/programs advertise as HD and others do not?

All satellite Freeview is in SD.

Channels 1,2&3 on freeview UHF/land based terrestrial are broadcast in HD.
Most of the content shown on these channels is SD though, and they upscale it before broadcasting out.
Some content is provided to them in real HD, and they don’t have to upscale this.

Cool Stats.

Everything must be working fine now with all the bugs ironed out as there is hardly any traffic here now.

My Tivo here is performing perfectly just as it was before the changeover :)

Mines going well now as well.

There were a couple of issues in the first week.

1. When I changed channels with the up/down button or last/back  three times I got the Grey screen of death with the activity LED on .  Reboot fixed it.

2. None of the first batch of season passes recorded.  I deleted them and set them up again and all was well.   I originally set them up as I had done with the old TiVo EPG for first run only.  The second time I did all  versions.

Since then it has been rock solid. Will get the second one a spare done end of month.

Regards,

Old3eyes

Someone who was involved with TiVo distribution came to me yesterday with his TiVo to mod. He was saying that the total number of TiVos brought into NZ was around 26,000 and Australia 400,000. Assuming those numbers are more or less true (but not having any idea what a likely survival rate would be after 7 or so years), there could be a few more to go yet...

I think there are a lot of people who have got them, that have no idea that they can get the EPG again by getting the fix done. It is really about getting the word out there, and making sure that they don't end up in landfills.

I perform Tivo upgrades, and have done from the beginning having modified around 180x Tivos so far. However, I'm over the bridge in Mairangi Bay. Happy to courier back if you can't collect. I'll send you details by PM.

Has anyone modified a Tivo with an expansion drive yet?  Were there any issues with this?

If you are referring to the external Tivo drive, the word from Dr Tivo (Darren) is avoid them.

The programme recordings are split across both drives.

Just do an internal drive upgrade and leave the external Tivo units alone.

So if you have an external drive the mod should be done with the external drive disconnected?

I had a look in to this recently and I believe the situation is that every time you turn the Tivo on the external drive must be connected.  The only step in the upgrade that you don't have the external drive connected is while patching the internal drive.

Note: I have not upgraded a Tivo with an external drive yet so this is purely theory based on information found on various websites.

I've performed a few Tivo upgrades for owners with external extender drives, and it is possible. It's very important to supply the extender drive and power adapter along with the Tivo, as that's the only way to test things afterwards. You can't fully boot a Tivo married to an extender drive, unless you divorce it first, and then lose recordings.

I would however recommend the permanent divorce anyway, as these extender drives are bad news. Far better to install a new 1TB or 2TB internal than to wait for the external to fail.

Thanks for that.  I have always been a bit concerned about the external drive failing as the recordings would probably all be lost.  An upgrade to a 2GB internal drive would be great but I don't want to lose the current recordings.  Is there an easy way to clone the recordings from the internal/external combo to a new drive before using that to become the new drive?  And presumably the new drive has to be keyed somehow to be recognised by the Tivo (like the external drive where not just any drive would work).
