This is an old post from sbiddle in 2009.

Did this end up becoming a reality?

"Tivo's potentially killer functionality is on-demand content. Want last weeks's Shortland St? Simply download it. TVNZ have a huge back catalogue that they obviously believe offers a significant business model.

MySky has this capability but at present Sky aren't using it - they have yet to go down the internet connectivity path with their boxes and offer an on-demand backend and internet based scheduling. I'm sure their plans will be being ramped up now."

Thanks

I think tvnz has given up on it, as they are now in bed with sky tv, with the igloo device. In my opinion the tivo is a better device though, and had far more potential for that sort of thing with caspa.

In theory you are quite right.

But sometimes I don't get my s#@t together and remember to plan things I want to watch/record and then realise when it is too late.

A classic is the news - I don't watch or record it, but sometimes the family/friends will say 'oh did you see such and such on the news'.

I guess with the wonderful TV1 +1 coming that will solve that problem as well:)

I ask my wife that question sometimes, and I usually get the angry answer that the TiVo didn't record it, despite having been programmed to, or there were three overlapping shows.

Because the tivo only has two tuners to record on. The advantage of on demand for tvnz, is that people can't skip the adverts, which they can with the tivo, so you would think they would have done something to keep the advertisers happy in that respect..

Yeah freeview satellite comes on just two muxes, so twin tuner recorders can technically record everything. Freeview UHF/terrestrial comes on three muxes, so you'd need a twin tuner unit to match what you can do on satellite.
