Unless they add it to the software, no.

NZ TiVo is a very dumbed down version of the software.

Not unless the new initiative from Freeview is going to allow it together with streaming TV on Demand.

Hi imnottechy,
Unfortunately, the YouTube TiVo Series 3 HME app (like CASPA, Weather, sudoku etc.) is not available for us to license.

You tube is on so many other devices that you connect to the TV now, that I don't think it is needed on the tivo. New sony tvs have you tube built in. However some devices like the xbox 360 want you to pay a monthly gold fee to access youtube on it, which isn't good as it is a free service.

Hi Dan,

Welcome to the forum - nice to see someone from TiVO downunder posting here.

Can you elaborate on why it is not available to be licencesed here?

I also thought I read somewhere else that it did use to work until there was a TiVO software update in NZ/OZ which broke the 'connection'. Wherever I read this implied it was just a TiVo downunder resource issue to fix it ie it was not a priority to fix the TiVo downunder software to allow it to work again. Whereas your update is more formal ie it is out of your control due to a licencing issue.

Did the licence holder make you modify your software so that what was once working would now longer do so?

Got my memeory back.

Re the above post:

Apparentley you used to be able to access YouTube on TiVo (in NZ/OZ) via Streambaby and it was that HME that was disabled (unintentionally?) by a TiVo downunder software upgrade (to manage NZ DVB-T signals).

According to other forums it was  never a priority for TiVO downunder to modify their software to allow Streambaby (and in turn YouTube) to work again. See the link.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the welcome :)

That particular vendor has chosen to no longer license the app. Nothing more complicated then that.

As for the Streambaby breakage et al, it was long before my time here.
Going over the notes and talking with some of my co-workers, Streambaby breaking really was an unintended side effect of fixing the H.264/NZ DVB-T issues.

Cheers,
D

Any chance the Streambaby can be re-introduced? Would be nice an easy to view video that way from our Mac rather than having to switch to Apple TV and another remote etc.

Hi Dan from Hybrid.

I second this request as well.

If the TiVO downunder software could be modified to allow Streambaby to work again, then to me the TiVo would become a complete home media player solution on it's own.. It would be even worthwhile buying another TiVO or two for the other main TV's in the house.

I am not a geek (at least as far as trying to build my own HTPC) so I would have thought this would strengthen the demand for TiVO 's as it would mean users get an all in one solution without having to consider other such solutions like WDTV etc.

Any chance you can push this up the priority list?

Thanks Dan.

Sorry guys,

Streambaby (which is open source software and in no way related to us) itself seems to be dormant, with only minor tweaks over the last 18 months or so and nothing for the last 6.

This is not something I can bump.

Dan,

We know streambaby isn't your software, but can't you just switch on the ability of the Tivo boxes to accept streams ? Then we can use the stream baby software if we wish to.
With it on our household would be much more likely to leave the TV on the Tivo channel all the time. As it stands now we flick between Tivo 70% of the time and Apple TV 30% of the time. Surely it's in your interest we use Tivo all the time and drop other media players, then we'd be more likely to buy from Caspa rather than iTunes for example.

Thanks.

Updated - Sorry Dan, looking further into it, it's not that streaming was disabled it was that TS rather than PS does't seem to play well with streambaby.

HI All

I have a Tivo at home and another on the way

I use a bit of open source software called pyTivo that allows me to stream my own Music and videos to my Tivo Devices.

you can get it from here http://pytivo.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/PyTivo it seems the lucasnz fork of it is better for NZ Tivo users it is the one i use

once you get it setup (follow the instructions) it works well and allows you to stream Video/Music/Pictures from a network device or devices.

I have just come across a plugin for it that allows access to youtube content. I have installed it at home but as i am still at work i have not tested as yet. I will report back once i have and let everyone know how it goes.

the plugin is found here http://code.google.com/p/pytivoyoutubeplugin/

Cheers

edit: added details on what fork of pytivo to use for NZ

Yes forgot to add that bit. It does require the home networking pack for it to work
