After being turned off my Tivo is stuck on the start screen. I have a hardly used 320GB drive I want to put in. Can someone point me in the direction of the two files I need? Do I format the new drive with the standard windows NTFS?

Over the last year I have had to cycle the power off and on to get it started after turning it off. This time it just wont  start up.

Not quite that straight forward, the file systems is not NTFS, basically you can use winMFS to mirror the HDD or if you have the image you can directly put it on the blank HDD. As far as getting a hold of the image, not sure who has them available, but I think it will be the official standard TIVO image, which then has to be updated with the modded software, from memory this is usually done from a boot USB with linux on it.

Printertech: Oh. It might be the death knell for my Tivo then.

Definitely not the end. Tivos still have plenty of life left in them.

If you PM me, I can send you a link to a pre-patched Tivo image I created that boots straight into a guided setup,  that I have in my Dropbox. You'll also need the correct version of program Winmfs in order to write this image to an erased HDD from 320GB to 1TB. Up to 2TB is possible but additional steps are required. I can provide a link to that too.

This all assumes that your Tivo already has the modified PROM  chip installed. If it doesn't have the modified PROM, you're definitely stuffed. Whatever image you place on the new drive, it will require a guided setup and that won't be successful unless the chip has been replaced.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz
