have purchased a 2nd hand camcorder as mine broke to record my mini dv tapes to pc have  had a forum goin  on ways to burn to disc or capture etc HOWEVER my laptop wont recgognize the device have searched for drivers on net nothing seems to worl have a disc  that came with camcorder but it wont work either somethig to do with windows?  please help

I've got 1 of those in the cupboard but not sure where the software is )-: I do remember that it was crap using USB but worked a lot better using the firewire connection..

my cam corder has firewire port called dv i guess how do u no what lead to buy i think my dv port has 5pins

Sony PCGA-DDRW1 DVD writer.   looking at buying this on trade me think it has 4 pins just wondered what lead i would need is it as simple as 5 to 4?

I suspect that your Firewire port is toast on the camcorder. I have a camcorder with the same problem but it's not worth fixing..

Firewire ports don't like being plugged in hot to a PC..

i guess i will find out when i try it out unlikly its toast been well looked after and never used what i want to no is how do i tell what firewire cable i need as in the number of pins?

Both camera and DVD drive have 4 pin iLink/DV connections. However the drive also connects to your computer via iLink which you proclaim as not having on your laptop in your other thread.

correct im buying  either a ezy cap thing or a external dvd burner as mentioned above which has a fire wire port so i need a cable from cam corder to dvd external burner and my cam corder i have no idea what number fire wire cable to buy there are so mnay out there the unit does come with a 4 to 4 firewire so guess thats all i need its on trade  me sony vaio with firewirer port
