Has anybody tried the Epson Eco tanks? I was wondering if they were mechanically sound enough to get through the amount of ink provided. Has to be better than expensive cartridges?????
Epson are currently offering an additional 12 month warranty when registered online.
Been really happy with the last two brother inkjets (multifunction-centers) apart from the part where they eat ink when not used (it does a clean which wipes the bottom of the ink dispatch thing or so I've read). However next time I'd probably get a black and white laser, as i rarely need colour.

Brother color laser is going really well so far. It's a year or so old, no problems at all. Still on original toner, but I don't print much.

I've had an HP and currently Canon inkjet with moderate use. Both chew through the ink but the annoying thing is the endless cycling/head cleaning... the damn things whir and clank away for ages (3-4 minutes is not uncommon), usually just when you want to print something. I did have an Epson in between that was not so bad on the cycling side, but the ink cartridges were tiny and had to keep replacing them.
If you can get a cheap enough laser I'd go with that- just check how many pages the starter toner will do.
Some brands put lower output toner cartridges in and suddenly you are up for big money to buy 'full' cartridges ie $70 plus each for 3 colours plus a black one. It can be more than the cost of the printer!
They are very quiet when printing compared to an inkjet, but some people don't like the 'burning ink' smell they can give off if you are close.
Buy something cheap, then dump it. It's the modern way.
Here's a printer (printer only, no scanner on this model) for just over $100 delivered, and then you get an $80 cashback on that...

i have 9 printers sitting in the garage , all working. I just dont want to pay for the ink, so i buy a new printer with ink for under half the price it would cost me just to replace the ink.
timmmay: I won't buy inkjet any more, they just break. I have a brother color laser that was reasonably priced that seems bullet proof, great printer. If you just want black and white inkjet I have an old one laying around but collect only, from Wellington, I'd have to test it though. If you want a new inkjet any Epson/Canon is fine, when the ink runs out it seems cheaper to buy a new one than to replace the ink cartridges, though they come with small cartridges.
Read this thread.
I completely disagree. In fact my HP inkjet printer is equal if not better than laser printer and cheaper to run. I highly recommend HP x576dw/x476dw.

Everyone's experience is different. Your point of view and experience is as valid as mine. Not sure you need to disagree with me, it's just different experiences. Note that I mostly used Canon and one Epson, not HP.

I purchased an ex-lease printer from a printer hire company. Got me a commercial grade robust printer for a reasonable price.
Some thoughts;
Get a network capable printer so you can print from multiple computers and devices. If you use Apple or Linux get a printer with Postscript or postscript emulation.
We got one with wifi and the printer can then sit anywhere in the house.
I have a Canon Pixma MG5560 sitting in my cupboard unopened.
You can have it for $70. Never used.
West Auckland for pick up - unsure what delivery would be.
You could buy ink off trademe at little cost, cant guarantee the quality but depends on what you use it for
