Hi ,
I have a Nikon D750 camera (i only own the camera body currently)
I have a loan lens so that i can make use of the camera, this lens is a (28 - 85mm)

To me an entry level photographer ,this lens seems to be good but when you are out-and-about the extra zoom capabily would be nice

I am wanting to buy my first lens shortly , An All-in-One lens would nice ,been looking at the 28-300mm lens

The idea of not having to change and carry extra lens would be nice when you taking photo's of images nearby and further away

The reviews online has been mixed for this lens, but as an entry level photographer i am not sure if i would be effected by its flaws

Any advise and recommendations would be appreciated

What do you want to photograph? People? Buildings? Bit of everything? This is key to being able to provide a good recommendation.

Superzooms are convenient, but they have higher F numbers, meaning it's more difficult to blur out backgrounds. To be honest if that's all you want just sell the D750 and buy a compact camera with a good zoom range. To take advantage of the DSLR format you might want to get the 50 F1.8 G fixed focus lens, good for portraits, though 85 is better for portraits and the 25 - 35 rabnge is probably a better general purpose lens.

The best general purpose Nikon lens for me is probably the 24 - 70 F2.8. I have the v1, it's my wedding workhorse. I also use the 16-35 F4 VR and 70-200 F2.8 VR, and the 50mm F1.8 G. Good lenses are expensive though, $2K - $4K, other than the 50 F1.8 G which is around $400. The 35mm is a little less, the 85 is more.

Don't buy the older D range lenses without good research.

You can buy third party lenses, but I find the wider aperture ones don't tend to focus as well as Nikon. I only buy Nikon lenses for Nikon bodies.

The 28-300 will work fine. It's sharp enough though it's entire range.

What you miss out on is large aperture, and only you can decide if you need large aperture or not.

i am photographing a bit of everything
When you are out and about you may want to snap something in the distance or high up and then you may find something closer to snap

Looking at the examples of lens you provided , are these the lens you mention ?

"50 F1.8 G fixed focus lens" - is this what is referred to as a prime lens ? (were there is no zoom)

Yes those 50/85mm lenses. Prime is fixed length, it's not fixed focus at all, that's a stupid description.

Those superzooms on a D750 will do better than a compact camera, but it's a bit of a waste of them.

I've got the f1.8, 50mm for use with my D7100 - I use it way more than any zoom lens simply because of the finer control of depth of field (due to the wide aperture). I've been more than happy with it, especially considering the price.

Just so you're aware, the lenses you've linked to, and that we're discussing are both DX lenses, whereas your D750 is FX (i.e. full-frame). DX lenses will work, but you won't be getting the benefit of your FX body.
