I've made a image in photoshop that is 6cm x 8cm

Why is it that when I view my image it's the full size of my screen?

I want to print it at 6cm x 8cm in size.

Is there a better way of doing this?

6x8cm is a odd size. You should be working in pixels too, 300 ppi is 118 pixels per cm. That means you need 944 x 708 pixels.

How big it is on your screen is pretty irrelevant.

He wants a 6x8" Photo I'd say :) Not so abnormal size for a 4:3 Crop sensor.

Simply put, make a 300dpi canvas the same resolution as the original photo.

Using CM in PS to get what you think it should be on the screen is wrong wrong wrong. As different screens have different size pixels. Always make it the largest it will go and scale DOWN. Don't start small.

So you make a canvas, at 8x6cm @ 300dpi, then change it to px to get an idea on how large the images need to be to use on that canvas.

But you will never get it to look in CM on your screen. Work with what you want the output to be, not what you want it to be on your screen.

Because you can zoom in and out on a picture it doesn't matter what size it appears on the screen.

You need to go to image size and set that to the specific size you want.

What happens when you print your picture, does it print the right size?

I may be looking at this to simply, but if you just want a 6cm x 8cm print of an image why not just designate that particular print size in the print options? Just go to file>print with preview...and you can set the height and width by cm in the print dialogue (provided the image is the correct proportions you should be able to get that exact size). It's irrelevant how big it is on the screen. Of course a calibrated printer helps if you are doing something for commercial purposes.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Monitors display 'pixels' not CM. You can also try 'view - print size'
