FYI -

The D7000 isn't listed on the Noel Leeming website, and their stores don't hold any stock - but if you ask they'll get one in for you. The price for the body only was $1539, which is the cheapest authorised dealer price around, even beating most parallel importers (excluding expert infotech and electron world, but not by much). 64 flybuys points too :)

Should arrive in-store tomorrow for pickup, can't wait!

It's awesome - my father-in-law got one, and I had a play last weekend, the autofocus is gobsmackingly fast and accurate, and exposure is superb. Plus I can dig out my old Nikon AF lenses since the D7000 has a focus motor in the body. The dual SD slots are a nice feature too!

Congratulations. I love my D90 and the D7000 is even better.

I'm no fan of buying equipment like this from big box retailers - I'd much rather deal with a specialist - but as you say that price is hard to walk away from.

Indeed - I couldn't walk away at that price. Harvey Norman wouldn't budge from their $1699 price, and Norman Ross wanted $2099. The lowest priced photographic equipment only dealers have it at about $1599, but I'd have to hoof it across Auckland to their store, rather than pop in to the Noel Leeming 5 minutes down the road. Wouldn't touch parallel imported for photo gear, and would not want it couriered either.

I find big chain retailers are fine - if you go in knowing what you want, and only get what you want. Plus if there's ever need for a warranty claim, just head back and have them deal with it, rather than the manufacturer. And they are a bigger and softer target for the CGA/disputes tribunal hammer if ever necessary.

As Murphy's law would have it, Albany Kodak Express are having a sale - $1499 for a D7000 body, and $1700 with the 18-105 lens. Damn cheap...

Unlikely, it will probably be another 2 or 3 years before we see a significant upgrade to the D7000.

The D90 is already more than 3 years old, and it's still around. I think we'll see an upgrade to the D700 first.
