Just signed up a friend to Facebook, using all their details and we skipped the "import friends" etc.... just wanted a blank profile to start with.

Now, 9/10 of the "people you may know" that have appeared are MY friends.

Also, straight away, a friend request is waiting to be confirmed, a "Colin Brown" from the Waikato - we only just literally joined FB. Some script/bot "Colin" is running maybe watching for new members from NZ ?

So there is NO association to me at all except the IP address - does FB go so far to link IPs to friends ?

Your friends probably imported their address book with your email address in it. Facebook keeps all the addresses, whether they are members or not. (Have read that Facebook creates 'virtual' accounts for non-members so once you join you slot straight into your friend network)
