The small issue around 3-Phase you mentioned is load balancing across phases and lack of net metering in NZ?

The effect is something like, everything is running off batteries during the evening and your not importing any power YET you find your getting credit for say 1kw exported and charged for 1 kw imported even though the net imported is Zero..

When you question your power retailer and your supplier you get a mumbled reply about that being the way it is in NZ and Portugal (I think from memory).

At first I accepted thats the way it is then I conducted an experiment.. In my case I've almost eliminated the problem and can run my loads from battery with no import/export to the grid WITHOUT turning the mains off (that works too)

PS You are still using Satellite and a TV aerial? Wow!

PPS Jealous of the east and west facing but do have a nice north facing array

Yes, waiting for Tesla Powerwall 3 battery, expected later this month. Then sometime after that first battery there will be a second Powerwall battery that doesn't require an inverter.

This was the initial setup but it's changed slightly to increase panels from 41 to 42.

The red X got moved to green tick and another panel added to even it up.

So we only have 6 panels looking due north now instead of 7.

The yellow stars are everywhere else Himself wanted panels :) but wasnt allowed, due to technical and bureaucratic limitations.

The bright north facing area is 3 panels that heat water. It was decided not to disturb that installation as there are lots of pipes coming and going to 2 hot water cylinders.

The 41 panel setup was expected to deliver 18.86kW, but we havent received the numbers on the 42 panel setup that we ended up getting.

Reading the details from Harrisons, they will merge the house phases to 2 and the shed and the oven will be on a non-solar phase.

Apart from the batteries, we are still waiting on the import/export meter change.

Once everything is installed we cant go live until an independent electrical inspection has been done, which can take 2 weeks from completion.

Crikey, could be mid-March before we light up.

so I'm guessing only one phase will be on backup power based on what you have said.

@kiwifidget - may I ask, why Tesla? There are plenty of superb hybrid inverters and battery combinations which would do just as good a job (if not better!)

Sorry, I have been remiss in not mentioning that I had no say in the decision making process, other than to agree it was a good idea.

I am along for the ride as much as you guys are.

Harrisons and Himself are entirely to blame for everything. 😎

Tesla powerwall 3 has been getting great reviews.
And I’m looking at getting a solar system with one too because of that.

We have a Sungrow system - absolutely fantastic, easily programmable (within reason) for it to do what you want with it. Nice UI too.

I’m sure Telsa is good too - just didn’t fancy the price tag or the man behind it 😉

But you fancy some Chinese company / CCP?

Haven't had any quotes back yet so don’t know what the pricing is like. ðŸĪŠ

The Powerwall3 battery was installed this morning. Sorry about the feet for anyone who finds that triggering.

The installer got us to put the Tesla app on our phones (both Samsungs but not new).

Our phones, and my ipad after the installer tried to blame Samsung phones,  could not find the battery from the app.

Installer had to provide us with a QR code before our apps could connect to the battery.

For about 3 minutes we were sun-powered but then it got turned off.

Import-export meter coming on the 25th.

Electrical inspection TBA.

I'm quite alarmed at all the warnings that have been installed.

And there are more warning signs in the roof space.

Is the house like really dangerous now?

Its certainly dangerous to anyone working on the electrics if they didnt know about the PV

Some of it's safety theatre, some of it's for emergency services, some of it's the interaction of rules that haven't really been updated properly.

Batteries and PV remain live even if the pole fuse gets pulled. If they're not expecting that, it could be a hazard to firefighters or linemen.

Some of those stickers seem to be redundant; you don't really need two 'multiple supplies' stickers. IMHO the stickers about the DC system voltage/current should probably be inside the inverter or less visible; they're not generally a safety consideration except for selecting future equipment.

IMHO PV inverters not capable of islanding should not count as/be marked as a main switch because the onboard protections are very good and it doesn't really matter which way the power is flowing, but them's the rules. Of course, yours are capable of islanding.

I feel this kinda flirts with 2.3.3.4 (a):

Each main switch shall be marked ‘MAIN SWITCH’ and shall be
readily distinguishable from other switchgear by means of grouping,
contrasting colouring or other suitable means to provide for prompt
operation in an emergency.

I think that should be interpreted as "in an emergency, I can quickly and easily shut down all energy supplies even if I can't read English".

Standby generators can be much more of a hazard to line crews especially if improperly connected. Barely any labelling or inspection requirements for them.

Damn ugly eh. Ridiculous the number and size of the things. I had to have some ugly thing put on the outside meter box, and some more on the one in the garage. Thankfully they didnt seem to want anything on the one in the house that the garage panel connects to because its old and ugly and will be replaced sometime when I upgrade the supply.

I've got a sparky coming next week to put a new power socket in, hopefully they can work it out.

Provided we're live by then, which we might not be.
