I have the Ryobi and I think it's OK. Just OK. I likely wouldn't buy another, but it's streets ahead of the Ozito I had before with it's stupid little plastic tag things.

"the" ryobi covers many things from plastic toy crap designed to compete with the no brand stuff thru to quite competant tools.

First I got this - https://www.bunnings.co.nz/ryobi-one-18v-25-30cm-cordless-line-trimmer-tool-only_p0208315 or one like it. Total junk, and the string has to be in these little pre-wound spools that are a pain to re-wind and the end of it gets all beat up and wedges on, and it drops new string out whenever it stops running so you just keep it running when not needed to prevent string wastage.

Then I got this, because I could put my expandit ends from my plug in one on it https://www.bunnings.co.nz/ryobi-one-18v-33-38cm-hp-brushless-cordless-line-trimmer-tool-only_p0343430 - totally usable trimmer, and if they did a shub bashing end for it here I would have that on it too (but its not sold here for some reason and ryobi is hard to get from the US)

That's the one I have. It's been pretty bullet proof. Does seem to go through the line quite quickly but I am using it on cobbles and fenceposts.

I basically went electric everything after borrowing a friend's two stroke weedeater as mine was in storage. He said it's hard to start... I nearly ruined my shoulder and couldn't lift my arm for a week trying to bloody start it.

I don't actually think it was working. But after that, electric everything. I was saying to the mechanic doing the WOF on my ancient Civic how electric impact wrenches have changed doing stuff on a car. No more compressor needed, just ugga dugga when you need it.

Right, I've given up. Tried every way possible of getting this thing to run, and nothing.

I'm either :

1) an idiot.

2) unlucky and hit a batch of faulty units.

3) just need to pay someone to do our yard

Bunnings can have this one back as well..... will review other options mentioned on this thread.

I have had similar issues with house brand hedge trimmers. I used 2 brand new ones, one after the other and they lasted for less than 1 hour, of normal use and weren't even under much load. I wonder if some are made expecting hardly any use, and if they fail, people can't be bothered returning them. It is really frustrating as the customer though.

Yep it is. I bought an XU1 (or something like that) planer. $30 . What???? We fitted a fancy but pre owned U shaped bench top into the last house (character/Olde Worlde) Needed a planer to trim stuff, then throw the $30 POS away. It was great. Cheap, heavy and did the job well and kept it and used it later.

Wow $450! For that price it had better be pretty freaking awesome. Dare I even look at the Mower?

Having already got an eGo leaf blower I'm keen to get further into their ecosystem. I'll actually be going a little more expensive than the above line trimmer and getting the power head as you can attach all sorts of different bits of kit to it, such as an extension pole, chainsaw head, hedge trimmers, line trimmer, and a scrub cutter.

Swapped out for another in house brand, and guess what ? Started without too much hassle and didn't have a "stand on one leg, nose in the air, while holding a turkey towards Pluto" start up procedure.

It would have been interesting to see if the kill switch was wired/installed the right way round.

My Masport mower is full choke with the lever pulled back, my neighbour's mower is full choke with the lever pushed forward ie fully closed. After a few years they all seem to have the same replacement cable so the markings are often wrong.
