Hi all,

 

The black two core phone line from the street to my property appears to have a split in it, I discovered the damage covered by insulation tape. Is it possible to cut and rejoin the line as you would any other line? Any precautions? I'm in Dunedin if that's significant.

its owned by chorus and you are not allow/suppose to touch it. Call and log a fault with your phone/ISP to get chorus to come and look/fix it

toejam316: Actually the lead-in isn't owned by Chorus, just maintained by Chorus. You CAN DIY a repair, but to get the correct stuff to do it would be fairly difficult, and it takes a little bit of practice to do a tidy job. Best bet would be to cover it as best you can to keep it dry, and then notify Chorus that you've found outdoor damage. They'll generate a cut cable job and send a tech to do a proper repair.

 

 

 

The Cable/Conduit is owned by Chorus - if it was installed by the Post office/ Telecom or Chorus. (The trench is yours).  Commerce Commission confirmed and deemed the Demarcation point to be the External Test point (on the side of the House) or the First Jackpoint if no ETP installed - not the Road side terminal (as it is with power). If you do try to repair it then you will get the bill to fix it.

 

If you found it in that dodge state then just leave it and let the Chorus contractors fix it (they still have to fill in the paperwork to chorus) but if you play with it or try to fix it yourself they arent going to be able to show that it wasnt you who damaged it and you will more than likely get the bill
