I looked at my address on two items of mail I received today and both had the same code on them - even though they were from two different organisations.

The code was KDY108 (several spaces) 5

Does anybody have a clue as to what this is for?

It is a sorting code that makes it cheaper for the sending organisation.

Kind of like a post code.

Hmmmm

This is a sorting code. It's actually the code for your postie run. The mailhouses can now print mail in a specific order and add these codes, mail then bypasses all the regular sorting by machine and people, and goes directly to the postie branch. For bulk mail, it is a significant cost saving.
