Hi

About to start renovating the kitchen and was wondering if anyone here has put in sliding windows at the benchtop level (close to the sink).

We will be putting in a thermal break double glazed unit and were wondering if anyone who has a similar setup could tell us about their experience.

Do leaves etc get stuck in the window? Spiders?? Any splashback on window or joinery from water in the sinks??

The window install at bench level gives everything a seamless look and feel but how practical is it?

Best to talk to a window manufacturer, asd well as the kitchen manufacturer, as the bench needs to extend into the windows reveal. It can be problematic but looks good if done well. The window track could be either internal or external.

+1 about getting your kitchen team onboard early on, IMHO joins/seals in formica (and probably other) benchtops stand out like dogs balls, you'd want to get that benchtop made in one piece to suit the window setup.

We have this set up, although the window is about 10cm higher than the bench. The sliding window is about 2 metres long and is fantastic. It opens out to our courtyard so you can pass food and drinks in and out, and reach in to use the sink. If I was doing it again I'd go for bifold windows so you can open it right up, rather than just have one side open at a time.

We don't have any problems with things getting caught in the rails, but yes, you get splash back from the sink up onto the window. Easy enough to clean though.

We have bifolds at bench level opening onto our patio. As above, this is an excellent setup for passing stuff in and out. No real problem with mess, the glass and aluminium frames are easy to clean.
