The long ones - 1.5m -

I used to just take them to work and put them in the skip.

I cant put them in garbage bags because they are too long.

I dont want to smash them to put them into the garbage bags because mercury/whatever.

So where can I get rid of them. Ive swapped some more out for LED, and I have quite a few dead ones that never made it to work when I had the oppertunity to use the skip.

All good electrical wholesalers will accept them for recycling. From memory around 50c or so per tube.

Hiya,

Where did you source your LED replacement strips from ?

One source was $99 per tube, and with 2 sets of three tubes in the cave, that's a bit of moolah

Our lights are in a suspended ceiling so i just put the tubes up there usually

.... and in breaking news on April the 1st, 2019, an office ceiling has collapsed under the weight of fluroscent tubes being stored overhead, killing one person and injuring three people more. :)

Pbtech had a sale a while back on led.

Have been put onto some of the good suppliers on alibaba (not on aliexpress) so will probably get a box lot of 3 and 5 foots shipped over since noone does 3s locally anyway.

Just watch the certifications, if you had not considered that angle already. Insurance companies will work harder to avoid paying out on claims these days.

Basically all the suppliers give you test results that are all you need to include when preparing a SDOC if you are selling them. If its for your own use then basically so long as they are not on the prohibited lists and you have test results that pass for a safety test in the absense of a AS/NZS one, you are fine from what I have been told by several people who should know. Last I looked there was nothing for lamps still as far as AS/NZS's

Old fluorescent tubes should always be safely recycled with the mercury content they have.

For that sort of money you'd be better off going for a LED panel light wouldn't you?

I took some tubes to the tip in Dunedin the other day and they took them for free to recycle
