Anyone with experience repairing this baby camera? or similar D-LINK camera? My DCS-825L wouldn't power on anymore, tried a different usb cable and charger, still no sign of power, since D-LINK can't bother to help me, I want to try and fix it myself. But the first thing I need to figure out how to open this camera, any tips would be great!

 

On a side note, the camera died right around 1 year warranty mark, had a terrible experience with D-LINK support, they ask for my purchase date, at first I couldn't find the receipt, so I ask them to check on their system which has the record when I registered the product, they came back with a false date(February) and say that it's over 1 year warranty coverage, they can't send me a replacement. I knew I bought it around my bday last year, so I dig out the receipt, took photo to show them it was purchased in May, and they still refuse to fix it or replace it. Worst customer support I've ever experienced! frown

If you have the reciept go back to the retailer and make them sort it. Consumer Guarantees act covers you more than anything dlink offer.

 

After the last dlink camera I used tho I think this is the best way to fix.

Thanks for the advise, I took it back to pb tech this morning, they will send it back for me, but it's up to d-link to decide whether they want to replace a new one or not, since I've wasted my time with d-link, and it's now 2~3 weeks over the warranty period, and from my terrible experience with d-link customer support, I've little hope for it...... btw, I was told d-link nz/au don't repair their products, how environmentally friendly? :/

You can't be serious to expect repairs on such things. Labour to fix would be more than the value of the product, if you followed this principle with everything then capitalism would grind to a halt. Its only a kids toy anyway.

I think you misinterpreted 'baby camera'. It's not for babies, it's for parents to monitor their baby.

Yes it's a baby monitor.

 

Toy or not, for a $199 product, it shouldn't last only 1 year, nor should any company lie to your customer about the register date.

 

I'll post updates when I heard back from pb.

UPDATE:

 

Got a free replacement today, that's quicker than my expectation. Dropped the broken baby monitor on Saturday, and received a txt on Monday morning, doubt it even reached d-link?!

 

Anyways, props to PB north shore. And lesson learned for me, I'll go straight to retail store for service instead of product company next time!

Probably has $5 worth of electronics in it, all surface mount and placed on board by a machine, to expect any human to repair such a thing is ridiculous.
