I has been busy creating a home automation app for the last couple of weeks and I think it's semi ready for testing.

The project is written in .Net Core and consists of the following components:

  1. Azure server side

    • User portal for IoT management
    • SignalR Hub for the IoT to connect to
    • WebAPI for 3rd party integration (e.g. IFTTT).
  2. UWP Raspberry Pi 2/3 client app

I am aware there are a lot of "home automation" solutions out there but most of they require proprietary hardware to work which is less than ideal.

Also I see this as an opportunity to strengthen my programming skills (I'm a software engineer)

As I am still waiting for my Pi 3 to arrive, I want to see if anyone would be interested in testing the app.

What you need:

  1. A raspberry pi 2 or 3

    • Some additional hardware to play around would be a bonus
  2. An SD card with latest version of Windows 10 IoT core installed and know how to sideload apps
  3. Some basic knowledge of JSON
  4. Some basic knowledge of .Net

PM me if you are interested.

Sorry I've invested too much time into Home-Assistant now - just tidying up contributing a module for it to interface with the IntesisHome AC controller :) Been a good opportunity to learn Python along the way

After reading through some online tutorials looks like it is quite a steep learning curve to setup Raspberry Pi 3 with Home-Assistant, especially if you want to control it from the cloud (i.e. CloudMQTT).

Not going to bad-mouth something I know very little of, but think for a simple setup (e.g. opening up garage door/turn on/off couple of lights) my app will be quite a bit easier to use :)

Think this thread needs to be moved to home automation section...
