renting. ----   Moved house - Still getting bills from old house.

My last day on old house was 22nd april 2017 & same day move in to new house. which was clearly discussed with the customer service.

They opened my account to new house But how hard was it to close the old one ?

Received a bill from period of 6th may to 22nd may for my old address.

So i called up mercury to sort it out, they are asking me proof that i moved out of that house.

What proof ???

just give 3 weeks notice and done.

Also discussed this with my old landlord, he says it's not supposed to be like that.

I send them my new tenancy agreement which clearly shows move in date to my new address.

Anyone had any such scenario ?

can anyone help in this situation ???

They are probably just trying it on, presumably the 23rd may was when a new account was opened for that property. And Mercury are just trying to bill someone for the usage between when you moved out and when the new account was opened. If you told them to stop supply to the old property then it is their fault if they kept incurring charges.

Considering virtually all smart meters have remote disconnect relays in them, They could have had the power disconnect exactly on midnight 22 April if they wanted to. It would have ensured that a new power account would have been opened quick smart for that property.

Or it could just be a billing mistake. Presumably you weren't billed for 23rd April to 5th May, So weird that they would start billing you again for that.

Half of these problems are caused by landlords who don't get new tenants in immediately after the old ones move out. But who are too cheap to open a power account in their own name while the property is empty. It has happened 3 times now to me where I have been working at a rental property. (im a Plumber) And the power company have shown up to disconnect the power. Always ends up with the owner making some frantic phone calls to the power company.

Thanks for sharing and sorry for late reply,,,,long weekend..... laughing

I had way too many calls to mercury about this and finally think its sorted.

Talked to some guy and he said its now closed and i wont be billed anything.

I dont like being rude on phone to these customer care guys (which i did not had too) but the things they do to annoy is beyond level.

But all sorted..!!!!
