I have two dogs with long coats and seem to love making dust. I am considering an air purifier as I suffer from hay fever and the dust doesn't help. Does anyone have one or has used one.

I want to know are they effective and worth the money? Or am I better having to wipe down surfaces every day?

We have a Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link - Works for us, my wife doesn't sneeze nearly as much from her allergies.

I've used a small portable negative-ion generator at times in the past.

Pretty impressed by the amount of dirt/soot/grime that builds up behind it ... so it must be removing something from the air ..

But even a fan builds up airborne dust on the guarding and that's not even one of its intended functions.

I've had a look at the off the shelf ones but found the cost a bit too high, so am looking to build my own ones for around the house similar to this:

Since putting in a heat transfer kit (i added a filter to it) i was surprised to see the amount of dust on the grille for the transfer kit, so am keen to make an air purifier before winter sets in again.
