We are building a new house and will be have gas hot water and a gas cooktop. It will be with twin 45kg LPG bottles as reticulated is not available.

What’s the standard way to get the gas to the cooktop in the kitchen? Do they do it through the roof space and down the wall like with the water pipes? Or do they run it in the concrete foundation to the position of the cooktop?

Thanks

Thanks @billgates that’s interesting. I had just assumed that gas pipes in the roof would be problematic (ie gas leak in roof with little natural ventilation).

You can just see it,a rat staring at your water & gas pipes and some electrical cables. Which one to chew on first? Do you feel lucky? I leave some rat bait in the attic just to see if there is anything happening and maybe get them first.

Roof/Walls is standard. The pipes are pretty heavy duty, I've stood on one in the roof (accidentally) and it didn't flex at all. Word is that explosion in Chch last year that totalled a few houses was caused by gas fitters failure to cap a pipe rather than damage or a leak.

Thanks @kingjj where did you read about the cause of the Chch explosion? I was very interested to know what had happened there, but after a couple of days it disappeared from the news and I never heard anything else about it.

Was told it by a colleague in a professional capacity (but not in my work capacity for those that know of that). Is reasonably common knowledge amongst a certain sector. Was told a report was due out 'soon' that would announce the results, this was quite a while ago though. Would take it with a grain of salt until results are formally announced.
