We've got a Bosch dishwasher and it's suddenly making a buzzing noise. It changes frequency during the wash cycle. It's coming from the bottom of the dishwasher, so definitely not from inside. Looks like a fan/engine issue?

Our old F&P DishDrawer had a similar issue. Fortunately, it wasn't as bad as it sounded. Something small had made its way in to the impeller and got trapped there. I removed the offending item and cleaned out the path using a firm wire or cable tie and everything was fine other than some damage to the plastic impeller. I can't recall if I replaced it or not.

I've had a rice granule trapped in the impeller cause this kind of noise

Thank you! I've cleaned the impeller, there were some small particles in there, but it didn't solve the problem. It makes sense though that the noise comes from there. How can I clean it further? I tried to unscrew it but seems I need to take the whole dishwasher apart then.

try turning the impeller with your hand but be careful of any foreign objects like glass/bones - you will encounter some resistance when turning it

you could also check the (depending on brand/model) non-return valve which is usually housed under the filter area next to the impeller - try searching a youtube video for your brand

The water inlet filter (if it has one - big bulky thing under the sink on the end of the dishwasher cold tap hose) could also be clogged causing the noise from not enough water coming in

Tried to clean it again, there's nothing there anymore. I can turn it without issues. I'm sure it's not coming from the water inlet filter, it's coming from somewhere near the drain/filter in the bottom of the dishwasher.

Going to try a thorough cleaning cycle.

We had a problem with our bosch one and it ended up being rice stuck further in somewhere further in. It looks like you still have the blue protective plastic over your kickboard installed. This can sometime be difficult to remove if left on for too long. .

How did you get rid of it in the end? Does it require taking the dish washer apart?

Yeah still need to remove the plastic, oops.

WE ended up getting a tech in who had to dismantle quite bit of it. But still a lot cheaper than replacing it. But if it is a product or part failure, you may have luck under the CGA depending on age. Our one was about 8 years old so probably near the end of it's life anyway.

It's 4 years old. I'm afraid that if it's a food scrap they'll say it's a user error, i.e. I should have washed off food scraps first.

The manual for my Miele specifically says that is not required - but since my own rice grain incident I always do

My Bosch is 5 years old heater blew up and they fixed under CGA - no charge.
