A cockroach has decided lay it's eggs in my desktop PC. 😟 Has anyone had to deal with this before? Can anyone provide any advice for removal?

They're babies and have been appearing in the main compartment, sometimes crawling onto the side panel glass. I've removed 6-7 already. I took the PC outside yesterday and gave it a thorough blow out with my electric duster and two more came out....

Probably best to get an air compressor and blow it out well - I'd suspect theyre breeding in your PSU as it gets nice and warm. Strip the system down if need be.

Ah, the old hardware bugs. Very difficult to deal with once it's made its way into the iron. You might just have to live with them until the next hardware cycle.

You mean I can't get them all out? My PSU is a very new Seasonic Prime Platinum 1300W, not an a cheap PSU. Actually the whole PC has current gen hardware it in and is not a cheap PC.

If you do open the psu, be careful as they can kill you, even when unplugged.

I believe all the cockroach species endemic to NZ are non venomous.

Will also void warranty so won't be doing that. Best I can do is blow it out.

Sorry, bad joke. I'm a software engineer.

On a serious note, tackling the source of the problem: I suggest you get cockroach bait and stick it around your house. Don't buy the sticky roach traps (sort of like fly paper but for roaches), they don't work in my experience, try the Raid baits or get a professional to bait them with the commercial stuff. Where there's one that you've seen there are probably a hundred that you haven't and you can almost guarantee they'll be back. Be super careful to clean up crumbs and food dropped around the house as well.

As for the PSU, if I were you I'd leave it unplugged for half a day to a day then *very* carefully open it up (I think a cockroach infestation probably voids the warranty anyway) and clean it out. Yes, stored charge can kill you so don't go touching anything inside. Good luck!

I find it very strange because I vacuum the room the PC is in thoroughly once a week, dust the PC with an electric duster and wipe things with a soapy microfiber towel regularly. In other words I keep the room very clean. I also don't eat any food in here. My PC has a custom water loop and I wonder if they have been attracted to that? The water cooling radiators likely generate more heat than the PSU... I still find it strange a roach would it find it's way all the way to my PC in the corner of a clean room at one end of the house...

Are these baby roaches a harm to the electronics? Can they short circuits? Will they survive in a PC? The PSU I believe should have short circuit protection which would save the rest of the PC, but what if they're crawling over the motherboard circuits?

I would be cleaning out your psu, if you are not comfortable doing it yourself take it to a tech place. If you do take it to a tech place might as well take the whole system for them to do.

Would only take one roach to bridge a circuit in the psu and it could fry your entire system.
