One of our bathroom downlights is flickering - LED Lux Lucci from Lighting Direct. They're about eight years old, we had another driver the same age fail a month ago, so they're probably all about to fail. I figured I'd replace the driver, but they're a 32V which seems difficult to find. I called Lighting Direct who said given the age they'd replace the whole unit, not the driver.

Can anyone recommend a good brand of downlight? Nothing fancy, on / off no dimmer, about 10 - 12W, insulation cover rated. We want a good warranty, min 3 years, prefer longer. Not 100% sure what size our current cut-out is, but the outer diameter of the current lights is 100mm, the actual LED panel is 65mm, so I'm guessing it's in the 70 - 80mm range. The price range seems to be $15 to $150.

We bought a bunch of Voltex Monaco 7W lights to replace all our down lights. Was recommended to us by an electrician. 7 year warranty. Not sure if you can order them without being an electrician though since he ordered them for us (can't order more for other people).

Anything from Halcyon lights seems pretty great. Lots of stockists, JA Russell probably the main one.

Thanks Chev, looks like a good quality brand, 5 year warranty, and midrange prices. I'll check 'em out in more detail :)

Yep.  Our son has buying quite a lot of Voltex stuff, most of the LED downlights come with 7 year warranty, the warranty also covers $80/h labour to go and replace a faulty one. That's actually more important - the cost of a downlight might be only $20 - much less than the labour cost to replace one that's blown.

Delivery etc has been first class, quality seems very good, don't think there's been a problem with anything, they have also been putting free samples of new gear they get in the box, LED downlights, new style wall switches etc. Good idea, as they end up in the van, can show people the product rather than a picture in a brochure or website.

(note that this company is not related to sellers of a fake so-called plug in energy saving device - that's 100% scam - they've been selling that product naming it "voltex" - and other names - instawatt, miraclewatt, probably others)

I have ordered Switch SLED315F through my electrician, seven year warranty. He says they've never seen any Switch or Halcyon brand downlights fail. Seven year warranty, price is similar to the Lighting Direct ones.

Thanks all for the help :)
