Just wondering  if anyone might have any thoughts on this -

https://www.bunnings.co.nz/ryobi-18v-one-hp-brushless-compact-2-piece-kit_p0332987

I just bought it, so yes, is probably a bit pointless asking now. Mainly asking as I'm convinced this same kit was priced at $449 maybe a month ago and now its $299, so unless I've bought rubbish maybe I did OK ?

Prices went up on lots of ryobi and it seems some have come back. The bare HP tools are crazy price now and near to what a milwaukee costs - things like the sprayers etc are crazy expensive compared to home depot. Since travel will become a thing again soon for people I know I might be able to get them from there again which will be good.

Seems like a good price to me given they're brushless and the kit has two 4.0Ah batteries.

For the Ryobi skins sometimes you can get a good deal off Amazon, deals pop up on OzBargin from time to time. Managed to get impact driver delivered for $50.

Looks like a pretty good deal for a pair of brushless drills with 4.0AH batteries.

If I got the prices right, thats quite a decent drop. Anyway, I'm not exactly Mr DIY, so they won't be getting extensive use.

Talking of which, anyone got any thoughts on a decent, cheap set of wood / metal / concrete drill bits / screwdriver set to buy (or ones too avoid ?)

I use a Milwaukee 19 piece set at work for drilling metal and plastic etc. I also use it at home for wood. Probably the best set of drills I have ever used. They have a hex shaft, so very easy to swap between sizes, and they don't slip in the chuck.

Part number is 48894860. Currently on sale at The Toolshed for $99.

I have the impact driver which I purchased separately (damaged box deal) and it's been excellent. I think I paid $130 without a battery so that kit is great value.

Thanks.

Dumb question #1, that hex shaft thingy doesn't mean they're specific to Milwaukee tools only ?

and #2, how multipurpose are they, do you know if they do all materials, like brick and concrete as well as the materials you mentioned. I looked on Toolshed and Milwaukee websites and it doesn't say anywhere that I've spotted so far...

The hex shaft is the standard fitting for most brands of drills etc. They simply click into and lock in my Ozito impact driver. The hex also means they won't slip like a round shaft can in a standard chuck. Also don't have to swing on the chuck key or hand chuck. I would never go back to standard drills with round shafts.

You need special tipped drills for masonry.
