One of our Orbit brand LED light bulbs continues glowing after being switched off. Just started doing this. Takes about two minutes to fully go out. None of the other bulbs do this.

Removing the bulb and shorting across the terminals has no effect.

Daughter reckons it is from the Planet of the Ood.

Thanks @mdf, great explanation. I do have a LED that suffers of this effect - and it is even a good brand.

Love the video demo on capacitive effects keeping an LED bulb glowing. 🤣

Needs discussion on how house lighting circuit wiring should be installed so that there is no 'hot' capacitive coupling to the off LED bulb.

I suspect the lower voltage in the USA might be a contributing factor.

Seriously don't try this at home with NZ 230v power. That said, you don't want to get shocked with AC power of more than about 50V....

I've been zapped by 230v plenty of times.. never fun..

Guys, you don't think he really has the E27 lamp socket on the AC mains? He's actually using lower DC or AC voltage that flashes and pops - especially with these alligator clips. Even if what he says is correct, I'm just surprised that he doesn't seem to have an explicit disclaimer about imitators.

He's not admitted it, but Reddit consensus seems to be the majority of the accidents are staged. People with - I would suggest - too much time on their hands seem to enjoy grabbing stills and pointing out props used for one reason or another in the background. I think there was one where something caught on fire, but someone eagle eyed spotted a cigarette lighter? The way he talks, the Jacobs Ladder incident was a genuine near death one though.

Our Orbit LED bulb from the Planet of the Ood after glowing dimly for a couple of minutes every time it was switched off finally gave up the ghost and died last night.

The component tolerance of the C was probably too large and the circuit design was too much geared towards maximising profits (saving the R). Sometimes the scaling of the country-specific mains voltage (with its relevant tolerance) also goes wrong. 😉
