I am looking to install a digital lock. Got quote from one locksmith for $1k including E-Lok 9 series. They have quoted $850 just for the lock. I can see the same model selling elsewhere for $550. I am thinking of getting quotes from few others or recommendations from fellow GZ'ers who are based in Wellington.

Hi Rmani

I just installed a smartlock on our front door a couple of weeks ago, didnt need a lock smith, only a couple of hours for an amateur like myself

in the original door, there are only 2 screws holding both the front and back of the door handles and 2 screws holding the door lock body

We have aluminum doors and the difficulty was getting a "slim" lock as I found was that there is minimal clearance between the lock body/handle and door edge

The other requirement was to avoid drilling extra holes if I ever wanted to replace the original down the track

I did a lot of research first, the one I end up getting in the end was was 35mm wide, e-lok was still 37-39mm wide (still too wide)

E-lok have a new series 9, but no still no fingerprint reader

All of them are pretty much the same (inc Elok)

Elok are overpriced ~ $600-$900, plus the E-lok wifi gateway $200 if you want remote access, you can get it on aliexpress for $35 (elok and the other manufacturers just rebrand the same gateway)

Some of the locks also allowed you to move the mounting screws so you can use the existing holes, eloks product allowed you to move the mount point for the bottom hole, the lock I got (Quoya D1) allowed you  to move both the top and bottom mount holes (so no drilling extra holes)

For elok, you also have to pay extra for fingerprint reader whereas Quoya D1 and the other smart locks already have an inbuilt fingerprint reader

In the end all of them are either Tuya or ttlock software based

Shipping from the UK in delivery end up costing me about $NZD350 (inc delivery)

Amazon UK

Simpled

Quoya D1

Ruveno

and you may need to replace the mortise lock as the smartlocks have a deadlock activated by lifting the handle up, cost ~ $50
