Hi all, in West Auckland and looking for recommendations please, for a company that does roof and (internal) gutter cleans.

I'd do it myself but a) time poor and b) two-storey house, so would like the pros to come in.

Thanks

Borrowing the thread to avoid starting a new one for more or less the same question, North Shore with a 1m length of gutter two stories up choked with leaves and debris, and no-one I know has an extension ladder to get to it. It's probably under 5 minutes work if that, but the lack of access makes it more or less impossible to do.

You haven't said what type of guttering you have.

I ask because I have (regrettably) Taylor Fascia. The neighbours palm trees are the worst for clogging up the guttering. They shed long, silver pieces of debris.

What I found, was the gap between the Monier Roof tiles and the front of the Taylor Fascia was very, very narrow.

Asking a few companies, they said they cleaned gutters by using their hands.

That is impossible for me. So, I bought the smallest pair of kitchen tongs I could find and then shaved off a lot of the hard rubber at the ends (or whatever it is) so that I could slowly get the tongs in and slowly pick out the rubbish. A long and time-consuming job.

The use of "regrettably" means you probably already know this, but there are only two types of Taylor/Klass/etc fascia guttering, those that are leaking internally and those that are going to  leak internally.  There's an entire cottage industry of companies set up to replace the stuff with guttering that doesn't overflow/leak into your house.

Yes, I already know about the pitfalls of this guttering.

We hadn't had a problem (say 31 years) until we had the water avalanche in Auckland of about 18 months ago (January?). We didn't know that the ficus on our retaining walls had found an entry point (square into round) into a downpipe (which also served as one of the final downpipes on our 2-storey house. It should have never happened but the concrete path was put down (in my mind) incorrectly. The growth fortunately went up the downpipe and not into the stormwater pipe leading to the road. The amount of water flowing into our lounge was not an enjoyable sight (and on 3 sides). We claimed on insurance for carpets and re-decorating, but had a largish bill for sorting out the roots from the ficus.

What we did was put in 13 overflow 'stations' and 2 new upstairs downpipes to help. We will never know whether we have done enough, until we get the sort of rain we did have. I still get up during the night if there is a torrential downpour. What we did is not the best solution, but putting up new guttering on a 2-storey house with many roofs is costly.

Our preferred company for dealing with roof cleaning etc, will NOT touch Taylor Fascia whatsoever.

If we are doing West & North, can we do East as well? 😅
