Hi All

just wanted to share my horrifying experience with HRV sales
guys. I invited them to visit in the evening, came at agreed time 7:30 and did
not leave at 9:30, I even told them at 8:30 that I have not had dinner yet and
I have 4 month old baby which needs to fed and looking after but they just
ignored my signs to leave instead they continued with their sales push harassment.
they wanted me to pay $300 so they can get sale and they will give me great
deal but will not tell what is this great deal unless I pay them $300. at
8:00PM I stood for 30 mins with my 4 month on my shoulder but these guys will
not understand that they need to leave. in the beginning one of the guys said
he is apprentice and second guys is sales consultant and after one and half
hour that reversed and apprentice become manager(that’s what they told me) and
sales guy become new guys who is still learning. I can see very clearly when
this manager/apprentice guy told me that I am the man, sales guy was all pale
and unhappy, poor strategy... during last hour I told them so many time to give
me quote and I will think but they did not wanted to leave. terrible terrible experience.
At one stage I thought they are thugs and now they are going to implement their
plan as it got dark. I can put more details but hope you guys got the idea!! 

I called up HRV to complain about the behaviour, Manager on
the phone was hesitant to apologise. when I asked for one then I got one but
she was not very keen. I have no idea how they manage to sell stuff. HRV SUCKs,

I will never deal with HRV again. thought I share this
thought with you

You could have just called the police to get them out. They may have gotten the message then.

ya I should have done that but did not think of this at the time... but these guys were seriouly wierd they will not stare at me and not say anything when I told is there anything I can do for you.... and it happen few times...

HRV are agressive in their selling... pretty much ask them to leave, if they dont advise  your next action will be :

a) Call the police
b) Release hounds

The telemarketing phone guy from HRV who called here recently was also aggressive in his approach, and additionally involving weird silences.. I think I see a pattern..

They managed to talk my elderly parents into getting the HRV system installed in there old wooden styled, small tin roof house. By the time I found out ,which was when my father complained to me about how well it wasn't working it was too late. In winter time the temperature in the roof space was -12.

There is no way the hrv system will work with that. I managed to get my father to complain. Although they came and removed the system, they still charged a fee to remove it.

HRV salespeople seem to prey on the elderly and it seems mothers with small children. I agree with the above. Call the Police and get them removed.

I purchased a system from HRV about 18 months ago and they were fine, it was actually the DVS salesperson that was really pushy.  The HRV guy was great and offered us a far better deal than their competitors.  I'm 100% happy with their unit as it works just as well as they pitched it.

Are the systems HRV sells actually heat recovery ventilation systems in the sense of incorporating a heat exchanger to recover heat from within the house - or do they just blow warm air from the roof cavity straight into the house?

HRV have a very clearly defined process they go through when they sell. If you go into the call centre on Portage Road they've even got it painted on the walls.

Personally I think that their system is as good or bad as anyone else's - they just sell it extremely aggressively but their people don't have any evidence to back it up. I had a bit of fun with one of their sales people on the phone a few months back and they don't have any knowledge of why their system is better or worse than their competitors. All they could fall back on was that their business had received a business award, not that their technology was better / worse / better value than their competitors.

They are VERY good at selling to people who don't ask probing questions - my in laws got sold a $3500 system which I could have had equivalent product (Smart Vent) installed for around $2000.

i cant stand this company, i get a call 1, sometimes 2 times a month from them, despite asking for them to not call atleast 6,7,8 times, lost count, it continues to happen.

i wont ever buy anything from them.

We had a number of salesmen come through when looking at home ventilation (HRV, DVS, Smartvent, Lossnay) and we found that the HRV person had no idea, pure sales and was very pushy.

DVS it felt that the sales person really didn't want it and it was a 'nighttime' job. Also challenged them on a couple of points made whilst discussing that didn't match. Was in line with not knowing. Lossnay were in the middle and Smartvent were great.

The Smartvent salesman was an electrician and explained it very well, set realistic expecatations and comments lined up with the research done. Straight off the bat was keen to point out that the inline "heaters" were a waste of money and not to bother.

Dan, I think if you are experiencing a problem as bad as this then Telecom (or your phone company) actually have some obligation to resolve this situation. It is more or less misuse of a telephone. Have you tried reporting this repeated calling to Telecom?

HRV made a submission to a recent Consumer Commission consumer law review.

HRV's submission argues against court findings that telemarketing activities (in relation to credit sales I think) are within the scope of the door-to-door sales act, and are therefore subject to a seven day cooling off period.
