Prime - Yes
NetFlex/Hulu - Don't know. I don't have a sub for those yet. It's this weekends job.

I've just run through a network set up and entered a smart DNS IP, with my router IP being the secondary DNS. The system seems to be happy with the connection, but Netflix is still unavailable. I notice that Prime movies now says that there is a problem, rather than being unavailable.

The smart DNS IP is 23.21.43.50 and it is from smartdnsproxy.com

Smart DNS is my preferred solution, does anyone have one they know actually works?

I have set Unotelly, however it still tells me that Netflix is unavailable.

I will get my colleague Kobi to help you out with this issue.

If you have ruled out all normal issues such as router parental control or improper DNS setup, there is a high chance that your ISP is using a transparent proxy.

Back to topic, we got an Amazon FireTV here as soon as it came out, and I personally really like it.

The interface is slicker and smoother compare other devices like Roku.

The only downside is the DNS setup on the FireTV is a bit tricky. It will work the best if you setup DNS on your router instead.

Hi cdrnet,

Are you getting Netflix unavailable on your Fire TV? Have you tried UnoTelly on a computer from your network to see if Netflix will work on your computer?

If it works from your computer, then we just need to check the DNS settings on the Fire TV itself.

If it doesn't work from a computer, then it could be a network issue, but we can do a little bit of troubleshooting to confirm this because it could simply be the case of an expired IP.

P.S If it's a network issue (i.e filtering, transparent proxies, etc), you won't be able to unblock channels regardless of which DNS provider you use. If not, then we can most definitely get you up and running!

Man after 3 days with my firetv, I am 100% sold. Heavily invested in the Amazon Eco System, with Kindles and Kindle HDX 8.9 the integration is so seamless. Last night I started watching a movie on my HDX (Great Screen and Sound) and then walked into my bedroom and pressed a button and the movie moved to the big screen. At that point the actors on screen were listed as a second screen on my HDX which I could click to get information on. It also found my iTunes and Vimeo Library and was able to play those. SO IMPRESSED so far. My wife wasn't impressed that Prime didn't entitle her to Greys Anatomy.

Plugged mine in last night, so far very impressed - pre-registration is a nice touch and it's very fluid / snappy through the menus. I can see this displacing the ATV in the bedroom and a second one being ordered for the lounge!

Trialling Getflix for geoblocking work around and Netflix is working 100%

I'm going to sideload XBMC this weekend for a play to see where its at and setup plex for a comparison.

Downsides so far (bear in mind I've only had half an hour of playing with it):

I couldn't see how to create a playlist of items (so add some umizoomi, dora, etc all to play one after the other) for my daughter.

Display cards for some items can be a bit misleading, I thought some items needed purchasing based on the display when they were also available through prime for streaming (i.e. free).

Has anyone signed up for the $2.99 a month all you can eat kids deal thing?

If you get "unavailable" in the price box when trying to install an app, then the Amazon account you are using is set to the wrong country. Finally figured it out just a day or so ago.

Its possible to log into Amazon and change the country of the device.

You do this in Your Account -> Manage Your Content And Devices
Left menu: Country settings

Mine was set to Norway and that did not allow me access to the apps like Youtube etc. Setting it to US was easy enough. My Fire TV has still to discover that its allowed to download content though, but I can add apps via http://www.amazon.com/b?node=7031433011

Not sure wether I need to reset the box to get it to understand its allowed to download now. Will see if some setting time out on it and use the web interface to add apps until I get fed up enough. :D
