Why wouldn't you just cast from your phone or something?
Why make a smart TV app then?

I actually downgraded my plan yesterday. Literally nothing I want to watch is in 4K. Next step is to cancel.
When looking at the plans, I was a bit surprised that the basic plan was only 720p!
Yeah, I'm pretty fed up at paying for the premium plan soley to get 4K HDR, when they barely have anything in 4K HDR (even new titles that were produced that way). I'd don't know if it's a licensing thing, but it's bullshit.
I'm pretty close to pulling the pin and cancelling outright as very little of their original content is even worth watching (and if it is they cancel it after 1 season anyway).
While most of Disney's new Star Wars and Marvel content is garbage, I give them credit that their STARZ catalogue content is all the highest quality available (lots of 4K HDR).
Correct me if I am wrong but don't you need 4K to get Dolby Atmos? I would value Atmos over 4K but since I don't have a 4K set there is no point in signing up since they will detect I don't have a 4K screen device and send down the HD version with just Dolby 5.1

i think it's only 4k + uhd that is on the premium plan, i.e. you should get atmos even with the standard plan, if you have an atmos system. i could be wrong, though...

I have never had the Atmos light illuminate on my full Atmos AVR (Amazon Firestick 4K) or my Samsung Atmos Soundbar (Google Chromecast with Google TV_).

What happens if you use a streamig stick like Firestick or Google Chromecast with GTV
https://help.netflix.com/en/node/128339
This links says only if you have a TV connected to your home network but it would not be - it's just a display device
It should be possible to provide a VPN server at the home location to be used by any remote Netflix device. A laptop should be able to log in to the VPN and provide a local WiFi SSID connected to the VPN - use the same SSID and MAC address as the home location, and Netflix should be unable to see that the device is not at home.

and i was wrong. sorry.
per Dolby Atmos on Netflix, it turns out that you need a:
A Netflix plan that supports streaming in Ultra HD.
this kind of keeps me on the UHD plan.
I think I've got this right but can someone confirm.
At my primary location (Wellington) I have an 'unsmart' tv. I access netflix via an appletv connected to the tv's hdmi port. I can't set my primary location using the apple tv. There is no option to do so under the get help settings. Is that correct or have I missed something??
At my holiday home I have a smart tv that I use to view netflix. I've just been prompted by netflix to set my primary location, However, I don't have the option of setting this as anything other than my holiday home location. Is that correct or have I missed something again??
If I set my primary location as my holiday home, then it seems that I can continue to use my apple tv in Wellington provided that I connect to netflix at my holiday home using the apple tv at least once every month. Is that correct or have I missed something yet again??
If I don't set my primary location, as prompted to on our holiday home tv, then netflix will do this for me. I'm not sure what the outcome will be, but as I access netflix more at our holiday home, and the fact that our holiday home is the only place we access netflix using a smart tv, I would guess that netflix will nominate our holiday home as the primary location. Again, have I got this right?
Assuming the analysis above is correct, then I'll be cancelling netflix. However, I'm hoping that somewhere along the line, I've missed something........
I could be wrong but think it’s only smart TV’s that worry about location.
I’d set smart TV as primary location, and as not possible to set on Apple TV hope it doesn’t count as a smart TV.
For people with smart TV’s both locations guess they update primary location when at other location, this should work if everybody goes to holiday home all at same time.

So, I dont have a smart TV, just ATV4, so I cannot set the primary location. Now what???
The link been posted heaps times in thread so won’t paste again, but in link has:
”
Set primary location without a TV
If you don’t watch Netflix on a TV or don’t have one, you do not need to set a primary location for your account. ”
From that I take it there’s no worries on the location where used.
Somehow the link got into post.

Thanks. But if anyone not using a smart TV app has a freeloader who does, the freeloader will get prompted to set as Primary User, which would make the owner the freeloader, and possibly get locked out if the $8 wasn't set up?
Me, I only have one, she will cease and desist, but certainly a scenario others will have

i have wondered about this, as well. but everytime a new device uses an existing account, the account owner gets an email. i would have thought NF would send the same confirmation email before establishing a primary location. it'd be interesting to find out.
My interpretation of the "without a TV" is that it applies to non-TV devices that have their own screen.
The wording from Netflix doesn't say explicitly that devices that connect to a TV (eg ATV4, Shield, Fire Stick etc) are exempt from setting a primary location???
Delete cookies?! Are you insane?!
I haven't had any emails at all from Netfix about these changes, nor any prompts about setting locations. Are there other users in the same state?
