That's right, and based on this new information now would be a great time for someone from the ISPs to chime in and make a comment. If the affected ISPs aren't interested that's fine, but it'd be good to least know that rather than hanging on and waiting to see if anything changes.

Slingshot VDSL, Global Mode On, *important* - no cache. NF has worked perfectly since I turned caching off.

Not sure about everyone else bit since 10ish last night issue appears to be resolved. Netflix and unotelly working fine.

Actually the best its ever been. All thumb nails loading, and no long wait for movies to load.

Will be sticking with unotelly and keeping acevpn as a backup.

Is be surprised if telecom and Vf do put this 'fix' in place.

1) they both heave deals with studios and those studios won't look kindly on them actively doing something that enables access to netflix. Passively doing nothing up until now was one thing, but putting a specific fix in place in order to bypass someone netflix have intentionally done to stop overseas people using it seems like going a little far, and could potentially breach their contracts with studios.

2) Not only that, but it is in their interest to not allow netflix access anyway, since they want to promote their own services. Actively blocking it is one thing, but blocking it by doing nothing to break netflixs own configuration intentionally designed to stop overseas peeps from accessing it? Seems completely reasonable.

This brings me to my third point.

3) net neutrality. Net neutrality supposedly requires that ISPs treat all packets equally. If ISPs put special configuration on their network to allow one type of traffic from one particular source to be accessed when the owner of that traffic does not want that, that would seem to me to be a pretty strong breach of net neutrality.

It's going to be frustrating for those of us unable to access netflix, but IMO it was always gong to be a 'fun ride while it lasted' and it seems to be coming towards the end now. This is just the first of many things netflix are likely to do to stay within their own contracts.

I have contacted both Telecom and Vodafone to get an official word on this. Waiting for their reply.

So, how hard is it to setup a VPN at the router level only for a specific device on the network?

Interesting what UnblockUS is saying about the proxies here being setup to ignore "don't cache" requests.

One of the telling hints we discovered while testing was strange IP enclosed in Netflix streaming CDN 's response header.

Normally, Netflix's CDN response header will enclose User's IP address in the X-TCP-Info and X-Session-Info header.

However, what we discovered is in broken scenario where streaming is stuck at 50% and breaks, the IP address enclosed in the Response Header does not belong to the user. Instead, it is some IP related to the User's ISP (e.g. Vodafone, Telecom, etc).

That was a telling sign that requests and responses were being cached.

We then performed the same test in UK Netflix. The IP address enclosed in response headers consistently belong to User's real IP address.

Thanks to the DNS providers who've posted in this thread and worked with users to isolate this problem. Obviously it affects your customers and therefore your business too, but clearly it wasn't your issue.

Playing devils advocate lets say the ISP's with "Transparent Proxies "don't play ball what options do we have apart from leaving and going to an ISP who doesn't I am with Vodafone and have had very good experience. My last ISP's both Slingshot and Orcon a dreadfull experience. Is this something that Unblockus and Unotelly could workaround at their end ?

We suspect the root cause is transparent proxy and caching requests/responses.

Pre-NZ-Netflix-Issue:
1. NZ ISPs running transparent proxy and cache (Let's call it ISPv1)
2. Netflix Streaming Auth/Checksum (Let's call it NFv1)
3. Streaming works fine

Now:
1. NZ ISPs running transparent proxy and cache (ISPv1) (no specific changes at ISPs)
2. Netflix updated Streaming Auth/Checksum(NFv2)
3. Broken streaming

It seems to be an unintended consequence of some update at Netflix's end.

@Slingshot users, please try this:

1. Go to Slingshot control panel
2. Turn off the caching
3. Try US Netflix
4. Turn back on
5. Try US Netflix
6. Report your result here

Hey guys,

I'm on slingshot and I did these steps last night, except turning caching back on and it was working on my xbox one. Tried again this am and it wasn't working so i turned caching back on, still not working so I turned unblock-us off and used slingshots global mode and netflix US is working again.

Not sure if this is because of the steps i've taken above as it was working on and off yesterday just using unblock-us. Also my laptop (using chrome on windows 8) is now playing us netflix and that still has unblock-us working. (not sure if having global mode cancels unblock-us out or not though.
