rokki: Playing devils advocate lets say the ISP's with "Transparent Proxies "don't play ball what options do we have apart from leaving and going to an ISP who doesn't I am with Vodafone and have had very good experience. My last ISP's both Slingshot and Orcon a dreadfull experience. Is this something that Unblockus and Unotelly could workaround at their end ?

I'm with Vodafone. My contract ended yesterday so I'm free to change ISP. I am considering Orcon now following this recent NF issue. How dreadful was the experience?

@freitasm this is good to hear!

It looks like Slingshot is sorted now and hopefully, with other providers this issue will be sorted soon.

We're working with Slingshot at the moment - are any of you on Slingshot and using our service seeing any improvements?

freitasm: This is the response I received from Richard Llewellyn, Telecom New Zealand just now:

"We’re currently investigating this with providers to get confirmation, and if confirmed will arrange for any reconfiguration changes as recommended."

Good on you Telecom

robjg63: Think there is any likelyhood that vodafone will even be remotely interested in the above suggestions given their previous statements?

Might be useful to get a list of isps that 'fix' the issue....

Given the arrogance being displayed on the subject over at their Community forums, I doubt it.

Nice work Telecom if they come through on it. Vodafone is being a bit quiet about it. I don't see it as 'enabling Netflix' as such, more fixing issues with their transparent proxy - we should be able to use the internet as we pay for it, not 'censored' by the ISP.

On a completely unrelated note - we have an issue with the new Telecom webpage at work (which we need to use on IE8). They have been very helpful and are rolling out a fix for it this week - pretty unexpected level of service as I was just expecting them to say "Use Chrome or Firefox if you can't update IE).

If Vodafone apply these recommendations would this actually fix all the issues we've had for years with Netflix & their transparent proxy?

Not sure they would see it that way.

Of the only thing that doesn't work is netflix, a service that isn't supposed to work in Nz anyway, then I don't think anyone can blame ISPs for not changing their network for that reason.

I was previously with Telecom (Xtra) for many many years and had woeful service- when our lines went under ground some years ago, Chorus did a quick fix with our connection with the intention to come back and rewire it properly. Guess what- 4 years later we were still waiting and living with constant disconnects (sometimes couldn't even stay on line for more than 30 seconds). Rang and rang and rang and rang and rang Telecom and every time had to go through their infuriating tiered support (level 1= power cycle the router, change sockets, change plugs etc, level 2 repeat level 1, hold the line for supervisor until phone battery goes flat, ring back and start again at level 1 etc). Eventually gave up and went to Slingshot three years ago on the understanding that they would sort the issue- within two weeks Mr Chorus was at the house to properly fix their "temp" fix. Never had a problem since- Slingshot have been grand to deal with- connection is now fast, stable and internet package is reasonably priced (VDSL no cap + home phone for $99 per month).

So long as you ring the help desk with the understanding and patience that you will more than likely have to help them to help you, you shouldn't have an issue.

Vodafone call it having a conflict of interest due to their partnership with Sky NZ. I'm very interested to see what they do in this instance, doubly so as a VF customer.

Can you use Slingshot Global Mode in conjunction with UnoTelly/Unblock-Us so that you can still easily change NF region?

I would think if the problem is caused by a misconfigured transparent cache that under the guarantees for services under the Consumer Guarantees Act the customers of Vodafone is obligated to resolve the issue or accept cancellation of contract from its customers without any penalty.

Hi 50n0f508,

Slingshot's Global Mode is compatible with UnoTelly's Dynamo feature to change NF region.

Yep- I did this some time ago with unoTellys's free trial before realising that Slingshot had Global Mode. Turned Global mode on and they didn't seem to affect each other.
