Are you saying you can launch the Amazon apps from inside XBMC? I would be very keen on that.

Yep, at least the Netflix and other apps. Not sure about the Amazon native ones although you can install the play store and then get any android app on there. The native interface can also be launched like any other app.

Yep you can select the apps as a favourite (which is a menu option like TV shows, Movies etc). I have youtube, playstore, Native Interface, TWIT and Rev3 as favourites. Some are XBMC programs, some are Android Apps, XBMC can do both.

I now have the answer to my problem of being unable to run Netflix on my Amazon Fire TV product. I thought I'd share this so that others get a heads up.

I use Smart DNS and I asked them why their smart DNS allows my PCs to connect without a problem, however my Amazon Fire TV device is no longer able to run the Netflix app. They now state the following:

We received information that since Netflix updated, Netflix is embedded with Google DNS and it's not working with Smart DNS properly on some devices including Apple TV. Streaming directly comes to your pc/devices from the remote website/channel servers. It's not coming from our servers. So you can be sure that you are getting the best possible speed for your Internet Service Provider. Depending of your load of data carriers between your ISP and remote website your streaming quality may fluctuate.

So I need to either step back to an earlier version of the Netflix software, which I don't believe will be possible, or I need to switch to UnoTelly :o

Why, oh why, oh why, won't this work )c8

I wonder when that changed (on the Apple TV)?
I have not had any stressed out texts from my wife this week saying Netflix isn't working on the Apple TV. I have UnoTelly at home though, not SmartDNS.

Have you tried a trial of Unotelly to see if that sorts it on you FireTV?

I suggest you get a trial of UnoTelly then. This seems to be the problem UnoTelly, Unblock-Us and others fixed when NZ ISPs had bad cache implementations impacting on Netflix a few months back.

Yes indeed, that is where I am presently up to. I paid for 2 years of SmartDNS in advance, so this is quite disappointing. I have asked SmartDNS if they have a fix date planned.

This looks like the same issue I have.
I have Orcon's Global Mode (free to Orcon customers) and Netflix works fine on my computers but not on my FireTV.
When I entered the DNS addresses from my Unotelly account Netflix works on the FireTV.

I have Orcon's Global Mode (free to Orcon customers) and Netflix works fine on my computers but not on my FireTV.
When I entered the DNS addresses from my Unotelly account Netflix works on the FireTV.

I have spent a huge amount of time on this problem. I do hope that others benefit from this. One good think that came out of this was Pluto TV. It's free and from what I have seen, pretty good

It looks like we both have a "workaround" which costs money.
I still would like to have it working with the free "Global Mode".

I would hope that if Unotelly have fixed it, so will smartdns. So far as your Global Mode issue goes, I suspect fixing this problem might be termed as supporting an unlawful activity. I would still however ask the question, as clearly you are not the only one. Slingshot claimed to be Netflix compatible in their adverts, so perhaps they might feel obliged to address the issue. In such an instance, Orcon might well want to remain competitive in this respect.

It might not be a big enough issue to warrant support $$$. Time will tell.

The fix was actually done by ISPs after UnoTelly and others identified the problem. They might have done something to make it easier.

Have a try on UnoTelly trial to see if it works for you.

There's nothing unlawful on accessing content from other regions.
