Thanks a lot for the help, from what i have found it seems like the AFTV is a bit easier for NZ users than a Roku

On a side note if there is a Twitch.TV app available on either i would be down for that.

Also i see that Amazon TV only needs an adapter i ave not seen anything about the Roku?

100% agree, I've tried probably 30 different solutions over the years, never found anything even close. Do it.

I am a MASSIVE gadget guy, I spend an insane amount of money on Gadgets and consider myself an extreme early adopter. I can tell you without hestition the best gadget I've ever owned is (any) Kindle, then my FireTV, then my Echo follows pretty closely in my top 5. All made by Amazon and all exceeded my expectations both for features, price and support. Rare in this day and age.

If you are a bit Geeky there are lots of guides you can use to setup a Roku. But from what I have understood (while setting up the Roku 3 today). It involves:

1) Geo-unblocking your computer while signing up to Roku in the US/UK (with the right kind of IP, you need a UK ip for the UK service). Making sure you use a US/UK address.
2) Geo-unblocking your network (via the router, could be done before step 1).
3) Blocking access to Google DNS and OpenDNS in your router, so the Roku will use the geo-unblocking in your DNS setup).

So its not exactly plug and play. No way of setting DNS servers in the Roku (at least easily).

And the Roku is noticeable slower than the Amazon TV.

Got the replacement Amazon Fire TV today as well. Had to set the network up (connecting with the advanced option and entering the geo-unblocking DNS servers), but other than that the device had all the settings from my old Amazon Fire TV and it was working as the old one in a matter of minutes.

So yeah, for ease of use: The price definitely goes to Amazon Fire TV.

But more apps on the Roku though.

Roku has the headphone on the remote thing which is actually suprisingly cool, and worked a hell of a lot better than bluetooth ever has for me when I tried a friends one.

Got my Fire TV. Have to say I'm dissapointed with my experience. The picture never gets into HD. I do have a slow connection {5Mbps} which will be the culprit, although my Apple tv will get into HD on Netflix or Hulu Plus in less than one minute. Wonder why the Apple TV has no problems?

Have unplugged the Fire TV and put it away until my area gets UFB.

I have UFB (200/20) and a Getflix subscription and until recently watching Amazon content wouldn't go to HD either (other stuff would); switched back to Unotelly and it works perfectly.

Apple has it's own CDN which tends to get better Netflix performance.

Just be aware there are issues with the Plex implementation on the Firetv and 5.1 sound with mkvs. It's been a year and it hasn't been fixed, so probably won't be. Other than that the fire TV is excellent.

I only have a 5.5Mbps connection, and always get HD (when available) using only approx 3Mbps when streaming.
Sounds like you have a different problem. Wifi or CAT5 connection to AFTV? ISP?

Sounds like you have a different problem. Wifi or CAT5 connection to AFTV? ISP?

I have a wired connection to the device. ISP is Spark and I have a UnblockUS subscription.

I only tried Netflix, movies that were listed as HD but the quality was bad, although it improved a bit with time it never got into HD.

Try a different DNS unblocker. Are the settings on your router or on the devices?

I believe UnblockUS doesn't not officially support the FireTV.
DNS4ME and UnoTelly do and both give discounts with a geekzone discount code at sign up.
