Try an app called "livenow" in Amazon store (free) you can stream BBC and ITV without geoblocking ,uses film on but you won't need to go through Kodi...

Yes, but live TV means that during our normal viewing times you will see infomercials and have to adjust your day by 12 hours to see the good stuff. It's still quite cool though.

ITV does stream the RWC for free. At this point there is not a native ITV app for the FireTV. So to get ITV on the telly you need to use other apps like Kodi.

I installed the STV (Scotland ITV app) - It doesnt have a great amount of content - so the proper ITV app will be welcomed.

How did you ge the STV app working? I installed it before the RWC and had video playing. Now that the RWC cup has started, the app opens but will not play any videos. What unblocking service do you use?

I use dns4me - did use unotelly before - Dont recall doing anything clever, but the STV player is pretty basic and not much content....

Now back in stock.

New version includes 4K support and Alexa.

I'm thinking of getting one, does anyone know if you can still load Kodi on these?
Also will I be able to bitstream DTSHDMA and Dolby TrueHD? (update : yes it does HDMI 7.1 passthrough)

Am sure this has been asked before, but is there much point in getting a 2nd gen FireTV to replace a 1st gen if I'm not remotely interested in a) 4k TV b) Alexa c) Gaming ? i.e. did I miss another selling point somewhere ?

Those are the selling points. My First Gen has never failed to cope with the content it has played, not even once. It's the FIRST device I've tried in 10 years that has had zero issues.

If I were buying one now, I'd obviously buy second gen but without a 4K TV and with already having an echo it's usefulness would be relatively minor above and beyond 1st gen.

To get 4K they increased the spec a little, and I guess for gaming or x265 content that MIGHT be a benefit.

I have actually found the gen one FTV ok with HEVC/x265 via kodi - apart from about 2 files that seemed a bit jumpy - I am guessing the encoding is a bit odd.
I mainly prefer x265 files these days because of the small file size for 720p content - havent bothered with 1080 files as I realise they might be pushing the FTV processor a bit much.

PS I have seen posts that the FTV gen one is getting Alexa in a major January update due soon. Cant say I care about this myself though....
