My Fire TV got the new update on Saturday. To me it feels a bit sluggish in general use, feels like a beta. The Hulu app is jerky when scrolling through menus. I reset the box and started fresh but it didn't make any difference. Netflix streams do seem to start slightly faster though.

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a Fire TV Stick installed with Kodi 16 and since it's on its way here now, I was wondering if I would need to use a vpn or dns to be able to access all the Kodi features.

I am with Vodafone VDSL and the usual Huawei HG659 and was possibly thinking I would need a Router with VPN installed running from that. Am I correct in my assumption?

All the kodi features? Kodi is primarily a media centre application for playing local content, anything beyond that is in the addon territory that kodi doesn't support internally. Please see this

If you want to access content from overseas then yes you will most likely need VPN access. All depends on what you want really, you will need to talk to the addon providers.

For netflix Nz you don't need to do anything, for US, the usual will be needed.

I do know that it is a media centre, I was just wondering if not having VPN access at the router level would block access to overseas content.

I've been looking everywhere online to see if I can implement a VPN in the HG659 without it affecting or restricting other browsing (local sites) but not having much luck .

MCONZ - You can add the DNS settings (eg. Unotelly, DNS4ME etc) to view overseas content straight into the Amazon Fire TV, which will allow you to use all other devices in your home as normal. I'm not 100% sure about the Fire TV Stick but assume it is similar.

Thanx. Yes the Stick WiFi is terrible by having to delete the entire WiFi account and then redo it again. Is the STB just a mater of changing only the DNS like the Apple TV??

It's not lithium ion, its a pair of AA (or AAA, cant remember and my new firetv is in the garage) alkaline cells separate from the unit, shrink wrapped inside the main box. No other carrier has problems with the transport of them.

I really think that all this screwing people over by refusing things that others take, silly limitations on combining things etc is shooting themselves in the foot. There are _much_ better forwarders out there than youshop, now you have had a taste of the usefulness of re-shipping go and find a better one to use if they give you any grief or slow crappy customer service.
