title says it all really.

If you use unblock-us.com and subscribe to netflix, and your internet connection is good enough, you can access Netflix in Super HD (which means 1080p for Netflix, which previously I think was only available in 730p/1080i)

Not sure how many titles are available in super HD, but looking thorugh my instant queue quite a lot of recent movies (within the last 5 years) and tv shows have it, but the older ones do not.
Havenm't tried it out yet, but will give it a go tonight and see if a) my speed can cope and b) if the difference is noticable.

netflix uses something similar to microsofts smooth stream (or perhaps they actually use microsofts one?) so the quality will dynamically change depending on the bandwidth available.

if you're watching on PC, you can notice the "HD" indicator change when your bandwidth changes, so you could enable it (if its another checkbox like "Enable HD" is on the PC), but you may not notice it as you might not be viewing it in 1080p, or you may seen part of the movie in 1080p some in 720p or some in 480p depending on your connection.

but any way good to see they're offering 1080p streaming now, vudu has had hdx for a while now.

Vudu says you need about 5Mbs for 1080P and DD+ 7.1. But that is a challenge in the evening for me even on my 100Mbs TCL connection which only reinforces the fact that our international bandwiidth is pretty poor (or TCL is overselling).

But when it works, it's very good.

a lot of vudu playback devices let you download the movie (or part of it) before watching it, so you can let it "buffer" for an hour then start playback to get the full HDX experience.  me, im too cheap and usually only pay for the SD or rarely HD version :)

Yeah the smoothstream stuff is great - it can be annoying as it looks crap for the first few minutes (most annoying when watching multiple eps in a series), but scales up really well.

Personally I am more than happy with whatever is current, I don't have any need for anything higher than 720p at this stage. Cool to see it coming out.

4k in H.265 is going be 25Mbps apparently - good luck with that :)

Nothing wrong with our international bandwidth. When I was on TCL it could never do 1080p on Vudu.

So I upgraded from cable back to copper LOL. Now on Snap Naked DSL (ADSL2+). Best international speeds ever.

I can do 1080P sometimes, usually Sunday morning when most people are asleep! But there is no point for me since my PS3 is connected to a TV that only does 720P.

Interesting you can get such good speeds on ADSL2+. When was that done? I am looking at ditching TCL in the near future and moving to xDSL but haven't decided on the provider yet.

Was done about 2 minutes before I made the post. Around 12:50pm today.

I find absolutely no difference between peak/ off peak. Its always pretty consistent and we often watching full HD movies on Vudu/Netflix and Hulu+ in the evenings.

Still have to try out some of the new 3D movies on Netflix. Think its was only launched this month. Want to watch African Wild. I believe its quiet good in 3D.

I've also noticed a lot of Netflix content now has the 'SuperHD' label.

I use a Gen3 WDTV Live, but I haven't quite figured out whether it's pumping out full 1080p.
The WDTV quite often doesn't seem to handle changing resolutions all that well, and I'm pretty sure the TV is reporting 720p most times, so 1080p might need to be set manually.

BTW, I don't usually have many issues streaming HD over Slingshot AYCE. It maybe drops down to SD occasionally during peak times, but it usually goes back to HD pretty quickly.

Your WDTV box needs to be set to 1080p permanently. Well at least thats how it is for my Roku and PS3.

TV will always report 1080p resolution for the Roku, despite the Roku pumping out 720p or even lower quality for some Netflix programs.

As I understand it Netflix continues to alter the picture depending on the network speed. You will notice that the picture quality is quiet poor at when starting a movie, but then it gradually changes to a better quality. This all despite the fact that the Roku is continuously set to 1080p, and the TV is reporting 1080p, The TV should never report anything else.
