Hmm it seems Neon is emailing everyone on (or was) on Sky. Just got an email from Neon telling me to sign up however I have not had Sky for over 2 years now, never got an email from Sky since leaving and had also previously unsubscribed from advertising from Sky.

Anyone else getting these?

Just as I read your post I got the "Have you heard about NEON?" email. Haven't had Sky for over a year and haven't had any other emails from them since I cancelled.

The email came through for me to my Sky email address. I don't recall accepting emails from other marketing partners.

I can understand that Sky still needs to get the hang of this new-fangled internet thing, but I've also has an email from Vodafone pushing Neon, including a lot of links, none of which go to the Vodafone site, which is enough to relegate this to the bin. Vodafone should know better.

I'm in a weird situation. I have a Sky account but have never been a subscriber, and I didn't get an email.

I have not subscribed to Sky for over 2 years now and received this email this afternoon.

The first thing I did after reading the title was to report this as Spam.

My rule of thumb, if the email title is not something I am expecting, I judiciously marked them as spam.

Almost certainly the case. They wouldn't want to encourage existing customers to take it.

Kinda surprised they are allowed to do this. It's ine thing emailing existing customers, but I thoght once customers left you had some sort of obligation to destroy the data about them after a reasonable period of time. Could be wrong about that of course.

Perhaps they are not allowed to do this? Report it as spam thru the proper channels and see if sky get slapped with anything.

I'm normally quite careful when it comes to that. As far as I'm concerned this is unsolicited email.

To be compliant with the anti-spam act, they are allowed to send it, if the forms were signed before the act came into force (I would expect new forms to have an opt in/opt out option), but they have to have a mechanism for people to opt out and people have to be able to opt out in the same method that the message was delivered (ie - Email, SMS etc).

Not word for word the legal explanation, but how we were explained it in laymans terms when we used to bulk sms our members special deals.
