So today I went to watch Netflix - I have a US account and use DNS4ME - but my payment was due and i thought I didn't have enough money on my westpac debit card so added it but still no luck. I spoke to the guys at Netflix via their online chat and they were getting an error saying it couldn't be processed as debit and they don't accept debit cards.

So since this isn't working would you think it best that I just get an NZ netflix account and then switch to the US content? Otherwise i'm not sure what to do as i've been using this card to pay for netflix for almost a year now. Seems a bit suspicious that it's stoped working as soon as NZ netflix becomes available.

Thanks

Perhaps with the NZ/AU launch they got an update of NZ credit card ranges??

Yea I wondered if it was something along those lines. I think I'll just cancel my US one and get an NZ one but still access the US content. It's annoying as I only have three episodes left of Bloodlines!

I believe I read that Netflix support can transfer your account region for you. Might be easier than cancelling/starting new NZ account (if that was your intention).

Hmm, I wonder if you get to keep grandfathered pricing if you do?

Not sure, but its worth noting the grandfathered pricing is time-limited anyway.

if you transfer your account to a new region, you'll pay that regions pricing.

Not sure if that is the case. I spoke to netflix about it and they said to cancel the US one and open one in NZ. I'd only be paying NZ$1 more, $2 at the most than I am at the moment so it's not too much of a concern for me price wise.

Sorry yes you are correct. I found the post referring to it, they did contact Netflix support to do the transfer, but they actually just cancelled/created new account. Does allow you to continue using the same email however.

Just rang Netflix on their 0800 number (0800 480 222) and the helpful American helped me switch me account from the US version I had signed up to - to the NZ version now available in less than 5 mins.

Basically involves cancelling US subscription - then they wipe your account to free up your email to sign up as a new user in NZ. Means you get another month free trial. But unfortunately looks like you lose your watch history in the process.

Sweet thanks for that. Sucks about the watch history etc but I'll just make sure I make note of everything on my watchlist.

Would another option just to be to continue paying with one of those prepaid credit cards? (As they often seem to be accepted when NZ ones are locked out, at least from reports around here?)

It's an option but I'm not sure what the benefits would be over having an NZ one and using Dns4me to access the US content.

My payment is due on May 6th - will be interesting to see if it'll go through. I'm just using my everyday NZ-bank-issued Visa card, so if that works I'm guessing it's a debit vs credit issue, rather than a geographical one.

Not much if you don't mind losing your watched lists, etc. That would annoy me though ;-)  I'm hoping my own payment still works later this month.

Losing my watched list is definitely going to annoy me but I think it's going to be worth the hassle of sorting out another card ( I don't have a credit card and using paypal seems too much effort for me).  If I enjoyed it enough the first time I'll just have to watch it again :)

My US Account subscription with an NZ ANZ visa just rolled over last night. Will see if it worked or got denied. (don't really care either way)
