How to use a vpn?

I think I know?

Simply choose one download install and connect? Once connected I can start using any application and it's connected through the vpn? Such as chrome, download manager, torrents etc?

Turn on your VPN software (my preference is IPVanish)
Select your virtual location (proxy server)
Connect
All traffic now goes through your VPN

I get 90% to 95% of the speeds that I would get without VPN (to/from the same location).
This morning I got 95Mbps (on a 100/10Mbps cable connection) from a VPN server in Iceland  smile

I use IPVanish for most of my surfing, and leave it on all day.
The only time I don't use it is for financial /credit card transactions - the banks don't like proxy servers.

Setting up VPNs...

Some have an application that runs everything. With others, you set them up via Network and Sharing Centre in Control Panel.

And just remember to turn it off for certain NZ websites e.g SkyGo. I was left blaming Sky for why it wasn't working once, when it was in fact my VPN was on. Not that Sky don't already/still have a lot of issues with SkyGo!
