This is an edited quote from MacRumors: The most recent rumours have suggested that the next step for the Apple TV is a new set-top box that's accompanied by a web-based streaming television service. The updated Apple TV is said to include a slimmer design, an A8 processor, additional storage, Siri support, a touch-based remote, and a full app store for downloading apps and games. Apple is also developing a "TVKit" SDK for developers, allowing them to create apps for the set-top box... Previous rumours have confirmed that the Apple TV will serve as a home automation hub for HomeKit devices when they launch...
What will a new Apple TV mean for us Kiwi's?, will it bring better content or just the same as we get now from our local streaming services?, will its SVOD be cheaper or will Apple charge their normal percentage fee like they do for iTunes music & movies?.
I look forward to what the App developers will bring to the unit especially for home automation.
I wonder if the likes of unblock-US, UnoTelly, etc will develope App’s and if so will Apple approve them.
For myself I have been hanging out for a couple years for an Apple TV box upgrade that I can connect into my Apple centric household. I look forward to being able to stream my iTunes music, photos & movies seamlessly to my 50” smart Pannie without having to run it from my office iMac either via cable or the household Apple WiFi network. At the moment I have a mix and match of an old HT 7:1 sound setup (no HDMI) connected to an Apple Express with Pannie TV & PVR connected via cat6 cable. Not the best and a bit messy.
