I have recently purchased a My Box unit from My Box NZ and wanted to know if anyone else out there has had any issues with dealing with them in the way of not refunding monies owed etc?  I now very much regret my purchase and am out of pocket over $300.

These things are known scams. There are threads about them here. You may be out of luck.

Depending on your circumstances, you might be able to make some kind of claim against this guy. Unlikely you would get anything but someone needs to shut him down so he doesn't make more victims.

How did you pay them? Might be worth getting the bank on board if its a creditcard - even if via paypal etc you can have luck with chargebacks.

No need to make him feel worse about it than he probably already does. People make mistakes. Not everyone is a technical genius.

Yeah. Picked mine up, complete with built-in Satellite and UHF Tuners, from Banggood for NZ$98 incl shipping. Works great too.

I paid via PayPal and received the box but it did not work properly.  I contacted them and upon their instructions I returned the box for a supposed refund - that was at the end of November!  I am still waiting for my refund and they now do not respond to my calls, have blocked my requests from their FB page and do not respond to emails either.  I have applied to the small claims court to try and get the money back but was wondering whether anybody else has heard of this particular company scamming people.

When you did paypal was it paying for a purchase or did they ask you to use the "pay a friend" option? Might be too late for paypal to sort it out unfortunatly but worth trying that anyway.

I don't think it gave me any of those options.  I think that regarding Paypal they would consider that they have done their part as we received the box, especially as it is now four months down the track.  I am just hoping that we will have success with the small claims court - fingers crossed.

Generally speaking, avoid these KODI/Android one-time payment Freeview/Sky channel boxes like the plague. They will almost certainly lose their streams eventually when they get busted, and they're legally very dodgy. Also, most of the time, you can find the same box from AliExpress for less than $60 without the preloaded software.

Open up a dispute with paypal stating the device isnt working, they offered a refund but it hasnt ever happened.  Paypal are pretty good like that.

Thanks for that, I may do that if the small claims court is fruitless.
