Yep seems good, Once Group Four starts, I want to just walk in line up and wait, Drop my pants and get a shot (ventrogluteal), then wait 20mins for the all clear, and go. Just like I do getting my Flu Shot each year at the local chemist.

There should No need for handing over any personal details as well.

Im guessing this sort ease, wont be available untill 2022.

Guess you don't want to travel overseas?

How do you want to be reminded to come back for the second shot?...

Plus, how will the vaccinators verify if, or how many previous shots you have had?

Or for the young, whether they are 14, 15, or 16+?

No not while there is a pandemic on.

A simple text message / email is fine by me. Nothing too personal about those.

They'll be in the health system in the background. But I imagine held close to chest. Presumably a reporter will ask for it and we will hear if it can become public in coming weeks.

But also somewhat fluid. If they open say 50 vials targeting a company/number of people. And it has leftover. They have been email bombing other agencies and handing them out in the following day, adding to the previous target group totals before it expires

If you needed more proof of Aucklands 'over it' mindset. Check out the news story on tonights Three 6PM about the restrictions down at the wharf for the AC. 3 Mins in.

There were (I presume looked to be people of authority/involved with cup) asked about their thoughts on the people packed together on the wharf looking at teams leave, not distancing. While the big screen, Part of a $250M cost sat rather idle, advertising the level and so on. Bars moaned they can't open up and a general 'why aren't we level 1' - While crews wore masks down to the boats..

Their answer - people should be able to make their own choices/decisions (to follow the rules or not).

@DS248  Something like this maybe:

https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations?country=~NZL

Shows data up to 3 March so can't vouch for its accuracy/update frequency sorry.

I don't really want to know how many happening per unit tome.

No matter how many are done the great critical kiwi knocking machine will get excited. Those arm chair critics and opposition mps will just get worked up.

I'll get mine in several months through work but if it get delayed by a month or two, I can't say I'm bothered because the rest of system is working very well compared to overseas.

Thanks.  I was aware of that site but as you mentioned, the info there is a bit dated.

The covidlive.com.au site is up to date and generally reliable (give or take the odd typo etc on rare occasions).

KrazyKid: What, the are just ramping up the program and they should be doing 10,000 a day already????

This south auckland centre was a soft launch PR event, not a mass vaccination program. Currently most vaccinations seem to be done on site (eg port workers)
They are only announcing the broad brush plan for who gets vaccinated today.

I'm not sure what the rush is. They plan is 9 months to vaccinate the whole country. Let them get organized.
The government actually have to do this right PR wise to get community buy in. Then we can get better herd immunity.
You can see they have a plan to do this with the timing of the announcements

This will be the latest topic of discontent and criticism. Too slow, wrong people, long lines, too slow, why not me as well when I took Granddad for his.

I see Judith wants a travel bubble quarantine free with Australia now. Then when we import covid frolm a not yet aware outbreak, then they will blame contact tracing I guess. The theme with all this is whining, not Covid

We have 60,000+ doses turning up a week, but are only dispensing 3,000 odd a week.

Our rapidly growing stock is in the area of 250,000 doses...

Some degree of stockpiling is justified:

  • We want to ensure that 2nd doses are available for the likes of border workers and their families when they come due. (Including in the event of a supply crunch, such as the the origin country banning vaccine exports)
  • We don't want to cause massive frustration where the vaccination people need to cancel heaps of appointments etc, and sit around (likely on full pay) because we have run out our stocks.

But is seems we already have heaps of vaccine in the ultra cold freezers to meet the above. As such we should be Running our vaccination program at roughly the same rate as doses come in, or even a touch faster to run down our stock to the target level.

Excess stock in storage, along with meaning out community isn't getting protection from it's use, also runs an (admittedly small risk) of being damaged, sabotaged, stolen etc. (freezer failure would be the most likely risk).

Todays brief questions lead to indicate the 1st receivers are due to start the 2nd cycle again come Monday. So some of the queries being answered. Confirmed there are 9 ultra chillers in use per the video at the installation/prep news.

So presumably there is a bit of re-packing back into the Pfizer packs for moving them around the country. Or some of each is allocated for use, and rest bulk storage.

- The Pfizer thermal shippers, in which doses will arrive, that can be used as temporary storage units by refilling with dry ice every five days for up to 30 days of storage.

Pfizer vaccine can be stored in regular (fridge) cold chain for up to 5 days. These kind of fridges exist in pritty much every pharmacy, medical center etc. Cold chain distribution of this type already exists for the likes of flu vaccines.

Seems more likely that frequent urgent shipments via cold chain will be made rather than trying to ship under ultra cold conditions.

Will be interesting to see how the actual logistics are handled, but I imagine we will have to wait some time due to security concerns.

Well, yes. However bypassed that - figured they wouldn't want to risk last-mile conditions straight from deep storage and potential batch wastage. Sure, maybe if there is certainty on exact delivery conditions and who is due to get it. And what days it's going in-arms. But not confident we can trust some of our couriers that much ;) At least at ultra-cold you can recall/redirect without the 5 day worry

It may have been a bit of a whoopsy. But emails they were sending to additional groups at end of day under current scheme seemed to be in the final 24-48hrs of said 5-day fridge conditions. Which didn't sound like it was very frequent/urgent deliveries. May change when it comes to mass/bulk use

Believe like many medical, blood products also go around regularly on planes/courier in insulation boxes with Dry Ice. So likely treated the same. Logistics demo videos out of the US show them re-packing out of the airport CANs, into ultra-colds. And back into smaller hub sized as part of the standard road transport rather than going straight to fridge temps and hoping all of it makes the 5 days. Not the same distance or amount to cover as us, granted. But imagine the uproar if anything went to waste due to a day or so fail at <8
